Warren Platner

Warren Platner (1919-2006) received an architecture degree from Cornell and then worked for several top architects and designers, including Eero Saarinen, Kevin Roche and I.M. Pey. In 1965 he opened his own studio and became an important architect and designer of buildings, furniture, textiles, lighting and interiors. He received the Rome Prize in architecture in 1955 and was inducted into Interior Design magazine's hall of fame in 1985.

As early as the late 1950s, Platner had started to make a name for himself as a designer. Backed by a grant from the Graham Foundation, he developed a line of furniture with bases made of thin steel wires. The Platner Collection was released in 1966 by Knoll and is his definitive line of furniture.

Platner created textiles and lighting for New York’s World Trade Center restaurant, Windows on the World, created the showroom for the Georg Jensen Design Center and worked on Manhattan's Ford Foundation design.
