Bunches o' bullets

While most of the merchandise in our store will be vintage, we made the decision to carry a few new accessories. Bullet planters are so hard to come by that they were one of the first new purchases we made. When they came in, it was like Christmas Day.

I had ordered a short orange one for myself, so I was doubly thrilled when the order came in. I had wanted one of the planters for years, but the ones I found were stained or cracked or way too expensive. Now I'm the proud owner of a gorgeous bullet planter for my home, and here are the ones for the store.

Tomorrow we start moving into the store, and even though I'll try to post with regularity, things might become a little haphazard. Bear with me. I'll get back on schedule eventually.

  1. I have yet to figure out, why these are so expensive! I see them on eBay on a regular basis... I know they are reproduced by at least one company... So it's not like there is a shortage for them...

But, if people are willing to pay the prices I see for them, then I hope you make out like a bandit!

P.S. Please send me the tall black one =) ha ha

  2. @1950sarh: I've already snagged a short orange one. I'm beginning to figure out that my problem with having a store is that I don't want to sell anything. I want it all in my house!!!

  3. These are gorgeous! I think it's a wonderful idea to sell these new. I think plenty of people would be just as happy to have new ones that are clean and not damaged. And I think your orange one is perfect!

  4. Talk about grabbing someone's attention! I think most lovers of mcm design would be thrilled to have a bullet planter (even if it's new). I know I would. I'm so excited for you all! I know you will be uber busy, but, I hope you'll find a few minutes to post pics of your store. GOOD LUCK!!

  5. My post series on "Is It Real" didn't generate much conversation, but it made me reexamine my thoughts about what we carry in our store. I used to be 100% anti-repro in any form, but now I lean toward the feeling that most people...including me...can't afford the really high-dollar originals, and that they shouldn't be denied having beautiful mid-century design in their homes. As long as items do not violate any patent or trademark laws, are well-made and give good value for the price and are represented honestly as reproductions, I think an individual should have a choice whether or not to buy them. (The generic drug argument won me over...Nobody forces us to buy generic drugs, but many of us choose to do so, because they're more affordable.)

  7. @Krazy4Mod: Oh, I'll definitely keep you posted on our progress. I'll try to alternate posts about what we're doing with some other topics so it doesn't bore you to pieces, but I plan to create a photo journal of the entire process start to finish.

  8. ohh these are gorgeous! My grandma here in TX has one of these, I guess I never appreciated it before now. I tend to lean towards things that have bold color, hers is a tan/cream color. Hmmm I should tell grandma that she owns something cool! lol
