Face is saved

I confess. I was pathetic at Pinterest.

I had one puny board, and it wasn't even very good. I kept hearing all my friends talk about their boards, and I kept seeing other bloggers add Follow Me On Pinterest buttons to their sidebars, and I knew my account was languishing...sorely lacking and sadly lagging behind everyone else's. Let's be honest. There was another L word lurking in my head. Loser. Loser with a capital L. But I couldn't seem to get motivated.

Last night I fell asleep on the couch watching TV, and I woke up at a weird hour...4:30 a.m to be exact, which I call weird because I've usually just gone to bed at that time, or I'm still up blogging. I'm not usually waking up then. Stumped for something to do at that ungodly hour, I started to pin. And pin. And pin.

Before I knew it, I had created over 20 boards, all fully loaded with pictures. Now I see why everyone keeps saying Pinterest is addictive. I'm not sure I needed another addiction, since the one I have to Diet Coke has almost reached the intervention level, but at least I've saved face.

My Follow Me On Pinterest button is prominently displayed on my sidebar. Now will someone kindly take the "Kick me" and "Loser" post-its off the back of my shirt?

  1. Ok...I've seen that I've gotten some visits to my blog via Pinterest, but what's the point of it? I'm not at all disparaging Pinterest...I just don't know what it's for? In the interest of full disclosure, I might have said (and probably did) the same thing about blogging a few years ago!

    1. I think it's taken the place of the magazine clippings in a accordion file that my mother used to keep. Most of my friends keep recipes, craft ideas and DIY tutorials on their boards. What I like about it...as opposed to just bookmarking something I like...is that I can see it. Half the time I don't even remember what my bookmarks are.

  2. So far I have steered clear of pinterest. Not because it doesn't look like fun... but because if I start doing things on (ANOTHER Website) I will stay on the computer longer than I already do. *lol*
I find that if I join a bunch of new sites I end up getting Compter overloaded and then don't even want to turn on my computer for days on end... Then if I do that (I get way behind on everyones blog post I love to read.) *hehehe*

Lemony goodness and seeing red (I love those items)and both rooms are just totally awsome!

    1. I hear you! One more thing for me to keep up with...but I'm an old retired woman, so I have plenty of time to kill.

Oh, wait...I keep the grandsons a day or two every week, work at the store one day a week, maintain the store website and inventory from home, do Facebook (mine and the store's), do my fair share of tweets on Twitter, write this blog, AND try to make time for life off the computer...jeeeeeze, maybe I don't have time for Pinterest...LOL

  4. I must admit I had no knowledge of pinterest till now. One glance at your pinterest boards (they are indeed gorgeous!) and my head started to hurt about the time and effort it would take to get involved. I have way too much on my plate right now and there's no way I'd ever have time. I may take a look at other peoples from time to time though :)

    1. I think that's why it took me so long to create more than that first little board. But the more I heard my friends talk about it (and the more bloggers I saw with buttons), I realized that Pinterest provides yet another way to keep up with what other people like and to showcase what we love/sell.

    1. I think that's really good advice, because Pinterest seems to have an Alice in Wonderland effect. If you're not careful, you're down the rabbit hole before you realize it...LOL

  7. Darn you Dana. I hadn't ever pinned although I did have an account and now, I started this week and I can see the addiction. I am going to have to limit my time on this. I am off to follow you now!

    1. LOL Once we get hooked, we just keep dragging others into the addiction with us. I'm off to find you too.

  8. I love Pinterest. As a design student I was encouraged to keep that "accordion file" and never managed it because of time, space, and where to keep all that paper. Now it can just happen virtually, and because I'm such a visual person-it's just so much easier! It has definitely become a go-to tool for my design process.

I maintain though, that everyone comes to Pinterest in their own time. I have fellow designers who still just don't get it and others who are obsessed!

    1. I agree that Pinterest has to be an interest that grows organically. Your friends can't push you into it. I'm still not as addicted as some people are, but at least I don't have one pathetic board with half a dozen items on it like I did for months...haha
