We have more Blenko art glass than we know what to do with. There's no way I can show it to you all at one time, so I'll just dole it out, a few pieces at a time...again, depending on how much we have left at the end of this busy arts festival weekend. I love Blenko, but I am by no means an expert. Armed with my Leslie Piña books, I identify pieces as best I can, but I'm always appreciative when real Blenko collectors/experts share information with me. If I'm wrong on any of these, please let me know.

DeleteI love these; the colors and shapes are so fun. I would love to have a small collection on my window, they would go with my other glass objects. I need to replace my cheapo green bottle with stopper with something better.
ReplyDeleteBlenko really is fun. There are so many gorgeous colors and shapes to choose from. I know you'd love a small collection. I had a small group of the tangerine color on my kitchen windowsill for a while, and it was so cheery.

ReplyDeleteThe best sources I've found for identification are books by Leslie Piña. I also find great information at blenkocollectors.com and blenkoarchive.org. From 1953 till 2002, the first two digits of a Blenko design number indicated the year the design was introduced. Don Shepherd was the Blenko design director from 1974-1988. That's all I know about the piece.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture, am excited to see more of your photos. I love Blenko and have about 40 pieces myself. I have the same as the first two pieces photographed. I have the first item in the same green and in blue. The 6422 is one of my favorites. I mostly only have the 50's - 70's pieces, but buy at least one piece a year direct from Blenko to help support them. It seems the past few years they are always in danger of shutting down, which I hope never happens.I have a few pieces for sale in my Etsy store if anyone interested please take a look!

DeleteWell, I thought I scored my first Blenko yesterday, but alas... I was carrying this green petal salad bowl with green lucite servers at an estate sale when a lady who is a Blenko collector tells her husband that "she has one in her hands." Imagine how excited I was. So we got to talking. One tip she gave is that a Blenko will always have a smooth cut in the bottom. But after some research after I got home I discovered that what I have is an Indiana Handcraft. A Blenko has 14 petals while an Indiana Handcraft has only 12 more rounded petals (www.blenkocollectors.com). Sigh...
