Hans Olsen

Hans Olsen (1919-1992) was already a skilled cabinetmaker before he studied at the Royal Danish Academy's Furniture School. He was trained under Kaare Klint but chose to move in a new direction, experimenting with form and materials.

In 1953 he set up his own studio, where he designed a number of distinctive pieces. He exhibited at the annual Cabinetmaker Guild fairs in Copenhagen, one of the most prestigious places to show furniture in Denmark.

One of his most famous designs was the Bikini chair, a good example of his early experiments with laminated wood. He designed a range of items for Bramin Møbler, Juul Kristensen, C.S. Møbler and Frem Røjle.

  2. Clever and so sleek dining room set. Who says a chair has to be symmetrical! Hmmm now find me a scrambled egg chair.
