Bend it like Nanda

Our first partial shipment of Bend seating arrived yesterday, and we're hoping to have all nine of the pieces we ordered in the store soon. The decision to become a Bend dealer is the next step in our plan to sell quality mid-century inspired modern furniture in addition to the beautiful vintage modern we love so much and to help our customers see how to use them side-by-side in their homes. We'll be the first showroom store in the southern U.S. to carry the line.

Bend chairs are made up of intricate arrangements of wires by a hand-crafted method of shaping and spot welding. Each bend is carefully arranged to ensure structural strength, while the angles of the back, the curves of the seat and the closeness of the wires are designed to encourage relaxation and utility. The chairs are made of hot-dipped galvanized iron to prevent rust and then given a powder coated finish in white, black, orange or peacock blue

While company founder/designer Gaurav Nanda is clearly influenced by iconic mid-century wire chairs, the designs are still fresh and original. Take a look at this fun collection!

I'll show you more when everything comes in.

  1. I for one, love them! What a great idea to mix modern and Mid-Century - both design eras can be friends.

I can't tell you how much I wish I were in Dallas, or y'all were in Brisbane.

I'd be your most irritating customer - lots of browsing and talking.

    1. It would be so much fun to have you and the Solid Gold Dancers hanging out at the store!

I love this line too. I think they would look perfect in a roomful of mid-century furniture. I might have to have a Lucy in orange or peacock blue for myself!

  2. I think they're really interesting pieces. The trophy heads are such statements.

Great title by the way. (:

    1. I think they're interesting in that they are delicate, but they have real presence. I don't think you'd walk into a room without noticing one of them. I agree that the trophy heads deliver quite a message.

Glad you liked the title. I was afraid it would be lost on some readers and considered incredibly goofy by others. :)

    1. I love a metal side table (or two). I still use a Platner-inspired hourglass shaped one I bought from CB2 or Crate and Barrel a few years ago. Since then, we've had a couple of real Platners come through the store that I've been tempted to buy, but I've let them go to other homes, because my little table still looks good.

Those Bend drum tables are sweet, and they're really versatile, since they can be used as a table, ottoman or stool. The Bend website even jokingly says you can turn them upside down and use them as a playpen for your baby. :)
