Woodtastic

Yesterday my SIL filled the store with some of the most stunning wood I've ever seen...a lift-top Brazilian rosewood coffee table by Jean Gillon for Italma which has an interchangeable glass top, a pair of Danish teak nightstands, a teak cabinet with a tambour door, a Danish teak credenza, a combination table/chest of claro walnut by Kip Stewart for Drexel and a console table of rosewood, walnut and teak by Dyrlund.

Nothing beats the rich warmth of wood to make a home inviting, and these refinished pieces are some of the loveliest we've had.

    1. Will do. Thank goodness you didn't put in an order for the coffee table/blanket chest. I was prepared to arm wrestle you for that one. :)

  4. Wow! All of it is so gorgeous. So many different wood! SIGH I think my favorite is the Kip Stewart coffee table. Having a coffee table that is part blanket chest is ingenious...I'm always look for a place to stash the coverup I use when sitting on the couch.

    1. That would be a perfect place for a coverup! I have a fleece blanket that I use, and I keep it in my credenza, but that table would be even better. I love that it has drawers and cubbies on the back too. It's truly the all-purpose piece of furniture.

  6. Dana, Dana, Dana... your SIL brings in some amazing furniture! These are beautiful. A friend of mine recently did a post on when it's appropriate to paint or refinish a piece of furniture. I'll have to send her over because this is a perfect example of why you would NEVER paint furniture of this quality. The wood is so amazing! I love the tambour door cabinet and the wood on the top of that console table is mouth watering! I'll try not to drool too much. Loved seeing these. Someone will be so LUCKY to get them!

    1. He constantly amazes me. I don't know how he keeps such a steady stream of incredible pieces coming in.

Yes, send your friend over. I'm pretty much a purist where wood is concerned, and I generally consider painting it the very last resort if that's all that will keep a piece out of the landfill.

  7. Combination coffee table/blanket chest by Kip Stewart for Drexel is my favourite of all in this post and I like combining different species of wood like the Dyrlund console table in rosewood, walnut and teak. There is a trendy burger place in my neighbourhood that has taken left overs of different species of hardwood floor to cover there floor, the look is quite inpressive.

    1. I'd never thought about combining all types of hardwood for a floor, but I bet it looks really good. If you ever think about it while you're there, snap a picture for us.

    1. Nobody should be jonesing for teak, walnut or rosewood at least until tomorrow. :)

  9. Great pieces. The 3-woodgrain top of the Dyrlund console is a standout. I bet that will be a quick seller. Is it a small dining table?

    1. I think that top is absolutely stunning. The table actually is better described as a sofa table, since a console, in the strictest sense, is attached to the wall. It's only 25" tall, as opposed to 29-30" for a standard dining table, so it's best used behind a sofa or in an entryway.

  10. Beautiful, beautiful pieces! I love the multi-storage pieces - you'd never know from the outside what function is on the inside.

    1. I don't know what I'd do without some of my case goods. They're a beautiful solution to storage, and in a small house built in the 1950s, storage is at a premium.
