It's tree time (boing, boing)

It's the day after Thanksgiving, and for those of you who decorate for Christmas, it's time to start making plans for a tree.

I've found a modern one that I love. It's the Tannenboing, a reusable spiral brushed aluminum tree that comes with its own cable system for suspension from 8-9 foot high ceilings. (Extra cable can be purchased for higher ceilings.) The tree springs to over 6 feet in height, is 4 feet in diameter at the base and weighs 20 pounds. It can hold up to 200 ornaments, can be disassembled in about 15 minutes and can be stored flat in a 3" deep box.

The Tannenboing is the brain child of Michele E. Weingeist. When she came up with the idea, she consulted an industrial designer, a mechanical engineer and several metalsmiths. It took almost two years and 30 prototypes (which were recycled) to come up with the right design, but the result was a truly modern aluminum tree. It sells for $395, plus $100 shipping.

  1. What a fun tree! I searched all over until I found the perfect white Christmas tree a few years ago. 3M had never seen one, white Xmas trees not being big in Scotland, but my Grandma always had one...so of course I had to have one as well!

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  2. Brilliant idea, I like everything except the price. It must be the car guy in me, but I want it to be a slot car track too. Or a train track.

    1. I'm not crazy about the price either, but it's pretty much in line with the price of high-end artificial trees, and I guess they figure it will last you forever. I laughed when I read the part of your comment about a slot car or train track. I hadn't thought about that before, but that's exactly what my grandsons would do with it.

  3. I would like this so much better if the ornaments weren't so cookie cutter SAME. Is it just me and my feeling that ornaments should have personality and not just be a decorating statement?
I too like the train track idea...that would be such fun.

    1. When my daughter was little, I had old-fashioned trees with all kinds of different ornaments, including personalized ones each Christmas. After she grew up, I had trees just for decoration, but now that I have young grandsons, I'm going back to ornaments that they will like.
