Green house, orange door

My house got a facelift a few days ago, and it's time for the big reveal. Shutters came down for a less traditional look, and Christmas lights went up (so excuse the extension cord on the porch).

Here's what it looked like before...before the neighbors on either side of me painted their houses tan too:

But that was then, and this is now:

And, yes, the long awaited orange door...

    1. Me again, I thought it was dark grey not green, so our houses are not the same colour after all Dana. Silly me! Next time I need to read the title and put my glasses on! I still really like your new paint job though.

    2. Kylie, it's a dark grayish green, so you weren't really wrong. At some times of day, it looks entirely gray, and at others, you can see the green distinctly.

    1. I knew taking the shutters off would change the looks of the house, but I never expected it to make such a big difference!

  4. Looks Great, Dana! The orange door really pops. I like that hardware too.

    1. I've had the hardware for several years, but the black door made the porch so dark that it really wasn't noticeable from the street. You'd think brushed nickel would show up better on black, but I think it really looks better on the orange. :)

    1. I had all those wooden blinds to contend with when choosing colors, and the orange door seemed to be a perfect solution. I wanted something in the same color family as the wood, but a little darker. I saw that chip and immediately knew it was the one! The green was a lot harder to choose.

  9. WOW! It's not only beautiful but you got that done FAST! I absolutely LOVE it Dana! I have always loved the look of painted brick. I guess I'm drawn to the texture. Perfect color choices and like everyone else that door is out of sight! Now if the neighbors paint anything orange on their houses.... well, it might be time for a neighborhood meeting. HA HA HA!

Nick is right, the hardware on your door is to die for. But I love the little tree with the mix of orange ball ornaments. Nice touch!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS! This was a great gift FOR YOU!!!

    1. The painters were incredibly fast! They got everything done in less than 2 days and did a great job. The interior is next, and they will definitely get my business.

Yes, if anything orange shows up on my street, I'm protesting...LOL My neighbor a couple of houses down is a girl after my own heart, and she painted her front door chartreuse. So far, no one has copied her color, even though it looks great. I think she and I are the most daring painters on the block, so my orange is probably safe too.

  11. Looks awesome Dana. I love the grey green. The orange door is pretty over the moon too. It seems like this took no time at all. Such a cheerful look with the orange door and the decorated tree next to it. I am debating chartreuse vs. orange. With me chartreuse would be so expected. I am kind of thinking orange!

    1. My neighbor's chartreuse door looks very cool, but I'm loving this orange. It makes me really happy every time I look at it. I'm sure you'd be happy with orange too.

    1. I had to laugh when I read "Knock Knock." Grandson #1 is into knock-knock jokes right now. His favorite: Knock, knock. Who's there? Orange. Orange who? Orange you glad I didn't say banana? Every time he tells it, he laughs so hard...and he expects us to as well. :)

Your door looks fabulous. I love having a "Stand out" color door. It let's everyone in the neighbor hood know who the FUN people are. =D

  14. Ah so the rumours were true!!....you have a FAB orange door!....just had to come over and see for myself!!. That colour combo!...Orange is my favourite colour so much so that when i was a kid i called myself Allison Orange (my family name is Brown). I collect orange glassware and once had a nasty self tanning accident that rendered me your front door colour!!....and i didnt mind!. I just love that your house will now be known as the one with the orange door.

    1. I suspect that most of the rumors that have circulated about me over the years were probably true, but the orange door one is definitely a fact. I think I had that same self-tanning accident...pumpkin colored ankles and feet. I love that you called yourself Allison Orange, and now I have to see your orange glassware!

    1. I'm in love with it too. I think it looks like a totally different house now. We had to cut down a big shrub that our drought killed over the summer, so we had the perfect place for the little Christmas tree.

    1. We're about to start construction on a freestanding flat-roof apartment behind the house, and we're going to use that orange on some 3-inch metal trim at the roofline. I think it will really look good!
