Changes

Less than a month ago, we announced that the store was moving to a large warehouse space and would be open by appointment only. My daughter had given notice at work that she was leaving to join the family business.

For several months prior to that announcement, my SIL has been searching for a larger retail space in the Dallas Design District, but the right spot kept eluding him. Then, two weeks ago, just days after moving the last piece of furniture into the new warehouse, the perfect place opened up exactly where he had been looking. It would mean another giant leap for the store before the dust had even settled from the last one, but it seemed like too perfect a location to pass on. After many late-night discussions about the direction the store should take, a decision was made.

The lease agreement was signed recently for the space at 1130 Dragon Street. The current tenant will be there until the end of June, and as of July 1, it will be ours.

1130 Dragon at Howell

This new location will give us almost three times as much floor space as we had before. The building is on a corner and has lots of windows, so we'll have great exposure. Our customers will be happy to know that there is ample free parking too.

We're all very excited about this big move, and we'll be glad when July 1 gets here. Till then, we have plenty to do to get ready. We'll keep you posted on our progress.

    1. Thanks, Ton. We think we've finally found a location that looks on the outside the way we feel on the inside. :)

    1. Oh, they just thought they were going to live the life of leisure and work by appointment only. That was the shortest business model change in history. My SIL will be going back to regular store hours on July 1. :)

    1. Nick, we would love to meet you. I hope you can come when your girlfriend is here and show her Texas. Since I've been following her blog, I feel like I know her too and would be thrilled to match actual people to the printed words.

    1. Thanks, Donna. We're really stoked about the place and believe the Design District is where we need to be. The designers in Dallas don't travel too far outside its boundaries to buy for their clients, so we were missing a lot of that trade at our former location.

  6. That site looks great; really love the windows! I have to say, I really don't like those "by appointment only" shops; they seem very exclusive and, if you make an appointment, all the pressure is on the customer to buy something or else you are wasting the shop owners time. IMO

    1. Working out of the warehouse space by appointment only was actually a stopgap measure. The lease was up on the other store, and it was re-up or move. My SIL felt strongly that the store needed to be in the Design District, so he was going to sell out of the warehouse until the right retail space turned up. We just never dreamed it would turn up so soon! We've always done a good bit of business as the result of foot traffic, and we hated giving that up, even temporarily, but we didn't want to be locked in a lease on a store in another part of town, even for a year.

    1. Thanks! My daughter and I are really excited about those windows. She was an assistant manager at Pier 1 Imports when she was a teenager and into her early twenties, and she really has an eye for merchandising and arranging the floor of the store. I can't wait to find out what kinds of sensational windows I'll get to help her dress.

  11. Congratulations mid to mod on the move. It's a beautiful store front and a great neighborhood if I remember correctly. I was there visiting my mom a few years ago. She since moved to Vegas.

    1. I'll be posting about getting the store ready...as soon as the current tenants are out. At first we thought we were going to be in August 1, but it got moved up a month, so we'll be in overdrive.
