Finally...1000 posts

My first post on this blog was September 6, 2010, and until January of this year, I posted every day...rain or shine, in sickness or in health.  I would have hit the 1000th post quite some time ago, were it not for the four-month quasi hiatus I took while my apartment was being built. Three adults, a three-year-old, a two-year-old, a cat and a yard full of construction workers proved to be more chaos than I could deal with, and I had to post whenever I could find a quiet moment.

I started blogging daily again about a month ago, and I have to admit that it feels more normal to me than the sporadic posting did. As we say here in Texas, I'm back in the saddle again!

  1. Yeehah! Blogging everyday is almost like a full-time job. That's a massive effort to maintain. Everyone of your posts is meaty and enjoyable to read. Even if you posted once a year I'd still read you!

    1. You're right that it is almost like a job, but it's work I enjoy...although I might need vacations every once in a while.

    1. I just happened to have a photo of myself that I thought you might get a kick out of, so I added to the post just for you. And now I can figure out what "give you curry" means! :)

    3. OK...I'm guessing that "give you curry" is the equivalent of "give you a hard time" or "give you hell" or "give you the business" in American slang. Does "take the piss" mean "have good-natured fun at your expense" or "embarrass you, all in good fun"? That one kinda has me stumped.

    1. I don't know if it's dedication or if I'm just a big talker. I think my kids would say it's the latter. :)

    1. Writing comes easily to me. The most difficult and time-consuming thing about writing this blog is finding biographical material about some of the designers I feature. That can take some digging. But it's really turned into a labor of love, and I miss it when I'm not doing it.

    1. The next milestone will be 1,000,000 page hits, which may be sooner than I ever thought possible, since the counter just rolled over 891,000. But it wouldn't mean a thing without loyal readers like you!

  7. Hi Dana, you were the cutest little cowgirl ever! I had a little wooden toy piano and stool very similar to yours - I had forgotten all about it until I saw your pic. I probably got mine for Christmas too...must ask my Mum what happened to it.
Congrats on what is actually a pretty huge bloggy milestone. Some of us can only dream of writing 1000 posts - especially such well written, researched and interesting ones as yours. Keep 'em coming x

    1. Isn't it amazing how a photograph can spark such a vivid childhood memory? I had forgotten about the doll on the left, but the minute I found that photo, I could see the red plaid taffeta dress she had on as clearly as if I were holding her right this minute.

I tried not blogging, and it didn't work. What would I do if I didn't post? Sit back and relax and enjoy my retirement??? :)

  8. 1000 is a lot!!! A real lot. Great job. When researching a piece of furniture or a glass object d'art, many times, I have entered the maker name into your blog's search engine because I just know you will have written something. Invariably you will have! Thank you!

    1. I started out hoping I could come up with something informative as well as entertaining. It makes me feel good when people tell me they find my blog helpful. Thanks, Rebecca!
