She and my SIL have mounted a search for Salterini, but they were having a few friends and their kids over yesterday and needed something for people to sit on in the meantime. After looking online in all the usual places, she decided to give Craigslist a shot and found a set of six vintage inspired stackable chairs that suited her needs perfectly.
We drove to Dallas to pick them up, and when we pulled into the driveway of the sellers' home, we practically chimed in unison, "This is an adorable house!" My daughter had been emailing and texting with husband Greg, and when we met his wife Chantal, she turned out to be vivacious and just as friendly as he was.
We were so impressed with the house that we asked if we could photograph it for my blog, and Chantal graciously allowed us to get several shots. Just look at the beautiful color scheme and the fabulous details...metal edging around their flower beds, trio of cactus planters and decorative concrete wall. Don't you love the slatted treatment on the end of the house and the slatted faux shutters? Absolutely brilliant design elements!

A huge thanks to Chantal and Greg for allowing us to photograph their home with no notice at all. What good sports they were! I wish the light had been more conducive to taking photos, but even with the late afternoon Texas sun creating bright spots and deep shade, you can still see the beauty of this thoughtfully restored home shining through.

ReplyDeleteWe took the shutters off the main house when we painted it, because they were very traditional and in bad repair. I was really happy with the no-shutter look...till I saw Greg and Chantal's slats! I'm so tempted to do this.

ReplyDeleteThe colors are even more fantastic in person. We were there when the sun was absolutely horrible for picture-taking. And that metal edging has been treated to look as if it has an oxidized patina. It's perfect with the color scheme.

ReplyDeleteI'm a house junkie too. I was so impressed with Chantal for being nice enough to let us photograph her home with no notice whatsoever. I'm such a weirdo that I would have said no...because I didn't have time to go out with a pair of tweezers and pluck every stray leaf and blade of grass. I try to tell myself I'm just a neurotic perfectionist, but my daughter keeps telling me it's waaay more serious than that...:)
DeleteI can't believe I agreed to the Houzz feature. A couple of years ago, HGTV wanted to use my main house in an episode of Rate My Space as an inspiration home, and I said no, because it threw me into such a tizzy that I had 3 legal sheets of all the things I would need to do to the house before filming. I think I'm mellowing. In one of the Houzz shots, you could see a sliver of the slats and a little hint of my orange sheets in one shot of the end of my bed, and I didn't stroke out.

DeleteThe slats would help cool the house as they block the sun from hitting the brick. Thought about making a slatted trellis on the west side of my place to block the sun. Then again a wood frame with solar screen on it would be ok too.
