Modernist Nest featured on Houzz

Angela Flournoy, contributor to houzz.com, contacted me about doing a feature on my home...the main house...just as we were about to start construction on the apartment and the place was a wreck. I explained the situation, and we agreed to arrange an interview when the project was completed.

She came out last Saturday and did a phenomenal job photographing my home...and an even better job capturing our multigenerational vibe. She's a beautiful, warm woman with an infectious smile, and I knew I'd be in good hands the minute we met. I'm so honored that she chose to write about my house. The article is wonderful, and I do hope you'll check it out.

    1. Thanks so much! I remember that everyone kept telling me that the construction would be over soon, and it would all be worth the effort. As much as I'm loving this place, I have to admit they were all right. :)

    1. Thanks! It's a shame you couldn't see the photos. Angela did a better job capturing the real essence of my home than the real estate photographers I hired.

  11. Okay, now I see them. Angela did capture your nest from some great angles. Beautiful. Of course, I noted how your Corsair sits very nicely on the bar.

    1. Of course! I think it's easy if you go to the top of the Houzz page and find the Embed button. It allows you to put the article on your blog, and it takes care of all the attributions too.

If you'd rather have my photos instead of the ones from Houzz, I can send you some, or you can copy from the house tour here on the blog.

    2. I am popping back again too (like Pippa). I keep checking the comments on Houzz. Your story has gone crazy! I knew it! I love the fact that the one guy drew the floor plan. What a crackup. I have now gone out and measured the front yard. We could do it. Someday. I was blabbering on about your house to my husband and our front yard and not once did he tell me I was nuts.

    3. I'm completely stunned by the way the article has blown up. Never in a million years did I expect this kind of response. Apparently, neither did Houzz.

My little house is in the back corner of the yard on a slab that is roughly 26' x 26', so the footprint is extremely small. Has your husband looked at the article?

    4. Yes, I sent him the links, your blog posts and the guy's mini layout. You should post the real layout in your blog and link back from the article. I think we have like 25' by 23'. Close enough. :) I will queue that up after the kitchen, 5-10 years from now.

    5. Well, if he didn't say you were crazy, I think you can count that as a yes. At least, that's the way I remember it was done when I was married...:)

    1. And thank you for your wonderful comments. You have no idea how gratifying it is, after months of construction, to know that what you put on paper really turned out to be a workable plan that other people find both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
