In the store: Amazing case goods

Till now, the largest credenza we've had was one designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen. Note that I said till now. We just got an 8' solid teak credenza by Johannes Andersen, and it's massive. Aside from its size, it has another feature that's unique: rounded sides. As if that weren't enough, it's finished on all four sides...a real top-quality piece.

If gargantuan is not your thing, we have something for you too. These beautifully restored chests by T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings for Widdicomb are exquisite. They measure a modest 36"W x 20"D x 33"H (91 cm x 51 cm x 84 cm), but they make a large statement, in spite of their relatively small footprint.

  1. The Andersen credenza is fantastic. It is very futuristic and functional. The quality is seldom seen in any new furniture.

    1. I honestly think that quality is almost as large a part of the appeal of vintage furniture as style is. Almost every customer in our store mentions the fact that you can't find craftsmanship of that caliber in today's furniture.

  2. I like the ebonized chests by T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, they remind me of a library card catalog. Interesting that they're called "chests," I thought chests always referred to a storage box with a lid.

    1. Those pieces are really pretty in person. I think my SIL called these "dressers" on Facebook, but I usually think of a dresser as a long, low chest with a mirror attached. I consider chests to be of two types: 1) a box with a lid, as you said, such as a cedar chest or 2) a chest of drawers. However, I don't guarantee that my definitions are supported by Merriam-Webster. :)

  3. That is one big beautiful credenza. The rounded sides are very pleasing and the finish is as well. Kind of a friendly piece. It won't last long. The brass pulls are wonderful on the two "chests." Sort of like nightstands. Sort of...

    1. I had never thought of describing a piece as "friendly," but you're absolutely right. It does give off a comfortable, friendly vibe. Those two chests are almost 3' tall, so they'd be too tall for most of today's low profile beds, but they'd actually be gorgeous as nightstands if you had a tall bed.
