Scheurich fat lava is that voice in my ear...temptation with a capital T. Honestly, I have all the fat lava I need. In fact, I have more than I need. A few pieces are languishing in the closet, because I simply don't have a spot for them. I've been saying for days that I'm going to list them on Craigslist, but the truth is that I'm not quite ready to part with them.
Yet I sat at the computer last night, poring over Etsy listings like some kind of crazed clay addict...even putting several pieces in my shopping cart. C'mon,

ReplyDeleteThe colors are amazing.
I think that one is a real stunner.
DeleteOh I do, Dana, I'm hopeless, I can never resist any temptation.... These are all gorgeous, I probably would have picked the exact same ones!
ReplyDeleteYou and I have very similar taste in ceramics. I figured you'd like these. :)
DeleteWG Junkie!! I particularly liked the third and fourth ones. xx
ReplyDeleteMy name is Dana, and I'm a lavaholic. No sense in denying it. I have a spot in my room divider where I'm thinking about pairing the third and sixth ones. The bottom one I think would look good with an Italian piece I have, and the rest I just want because, yes, I'm a junkie! :)
DeleteHi Dana
ReplyDeleteGreat timing for a post about fat lava/Scheurich. Only last week I went to the thrift shop in my town, saw a nice vase, bought it (for 4 swiss franks, about 5 dollars us), got home, checked the marking on the internet and discovered it was a piece from Strehla, from the former German Democratic republic, most likely from the 60ies, maybe 70ies. I had so much fun, checking out information, prices and listings on ebay and like sites and of course searching your blog for references.
For now, I enjoy looking at the vase sitting on a shelf in my lounge room, maybe I will list it on an internet selling site later.
I love your blog and can't image how much work goes into the well researched and great written articles. Thank you for putting your knowlegde on the internet for us readers to learn from.
Best regards from Switzerland
Barbara
Barbara, thanks so much for your kind words. I'm very happy that you enjoy the blog, and I hope you'll remain a regular reader.
DeleteCongratulations on your wonderful fat lava find...and at such an excellent price. It really is so much fun to run across something you know nothing about...but you have a feeling it's "something." Researching it and finding out that you've found a collectible piece is another kind of fun! :)
I can never go past any WG pottery with and Orange or red glaze...these would all look stunning together as a GROUP :)
ReplyDeleteNow that I have a built-in room divider for my WG pottery collection, I'm always thinking about how they'll all look together. At first glance, my collection seems to be primarily brown and orange, but I'm working in subtle shades of green and blue as well. If I buy any of these, they will go in that group.
DeleteI like the clear orange tones and that latter blue one, best!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard for me to pass up anything that's orange, and I really, really like that last one with blue and orange too.
DeleteI like the bottom one best. I bought a Scheurich Fabiola piece from a car boot sale for £4 , now I`m hooked . Bought a 401-28 for £5 today. I like to restrict myself to smaller pieces under £5. The one today is my largest yet, but how could I say no for £5??!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a steal at that price. I don't blame you for grabbing it. Scheurich is my favorite of all the West German manufacturers. I can't get enough of it.
