In 1962
Poul Kjaerholm and his wife Hanne built a home in Rungsted, Denmark which is considered an icon of Danish modern architecture. Hanne, a talented architect, designed the house, and her husband was responsible for the interior. Together they created a serene, modern sanctuary which they shared until Poul Kjaerholm died in 1980. Hanne continued to live there for almost 30 years after his death.

ReplyDeleteHanne had an amazing talent for melding traditional design with modernism, and Poul designed some of the most beautiful furniture of that era. What a home that must have been the day they moved into it!
DeleteSure is an impressive house. I really like the bookshelves, wide open space and the wall of windows. I wonder if the wall of windows faced south for capturing the sun to assist in winter heating.
ReplyDeleteThat kind of openness and light gets me every time. I'd bet any good architect takes advantage of sunlight in their designs, not just for aesthetics, but with heating and cooling in mind as well.

ReplyDeleteCan you imagine the creative energy in that house? And after she died, she had a 28-year domestic partnership with yet another creative and talented man. What a fortunate woman!
