In the store: Noguchi rocking stool

Designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1954, these stools were produced by Knoll for only 5 years. Hans Knoll had Noguchi adapt the design for side tables in that same year, and the full-sized Cyclone dining table went into production in 1957.

We have one of these very rare early rocking stools in our store now. To say that it has a patina would be an understatement, but I think the wear on this particular piece gives it remarkable character. I hope my SIL doesn't plan to have it restored. I love it just the way it is.

    1. I think so too. I'm usually a perfectionist and like my vintage furniture restored, but something about this piece captivated me the minute I saw it. I love it just the way it is and wish I had it for my own.

  2. I totally agree, Dana- I hope he leaves it as it is! What a beauty it is, I've never heard about this one- let alone seen it!

    1. Tove, they're very rare. One of my SIL's friends, who has been in the business for 15 years or so and runs perhaps the top vintage furniture store in Dallas, dropped by the store to look at it. He said he'd never seen one and knew he wasn't likely to again.
