Kurt Østervig

Kurt Østervig (1912-1986) was a Danish furniture designer. He originally trained to be a shipbuilding engineer at the Odense Steel Shipyard, but his career took a turn. He took a job with E. Knudsen's Design Studio, one of the leading furniture producers of the 1930s and 1940s.

He opened his own studio in 1947 and became a freelance furniture designer, working with most of the major Scandinavian furniture factories of his day.

In addition to residential furniture, he also provided specialized design solutions for ships, hotels and movie theaters. He is also known for his drawings, some of which are as intricately detailed as photographs. His designs, once produced by K. P. Jørgensen, are now manufactured by Tranekær Furniture.

In the 1960s, one of Østervig's designs was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
