More Cowtown MCM

Here's another beautiful mid-century home that sold recently for an undisclosed price (last known list price: $1.2K). Built in 1951, it sits on 1.25 acres in one of Fort Worth's most desirable neighborhoods. Internationally known architect Samuel G. Wiener, Sr. was commissioned by the original owner to design and build this 3408 square foot, 3 bedroom/4 bath home.

The bad news: Rumor has it that it might be slated for demolition. I have been unable to confirm this, so let's hope the rumor isn't true.

Update (5/18/2015):  Word was circulating that the house was demolished last week, so I drove by to see for myself. As of yesterday, it was still standing. I'll post more information as I get it.

  1. What a waste if this beautiful home is demo'd. :(

    1. I'm going to have to drive by today. My daughter told me she heard it was torn down this week. I'm still hoping it's not true.

    1. Most of the homes in that neighborhood were built in the 1950s and 1960s, and it has been a prestigious area since its original development. However, over the years, many other upscale neighborhoods have sprung up around town. You'd think if the buyers wanted a new million-dollar-plus construction of a different style, they'd build in a newer neighborhood, rather than tearing down an architecturally significant mid-century one. I confess that I'm sometimes baffled by the decisions people make.

Still, I have to concede that it's their money and their choice. If we want to protect the mid-century homes in our city, we (and I include myself) are going to have to become more actively involved in their preservation.

  3. What a loss if so. Most rooms looks huge, must be all that space in Texas.

    1. It's true that most wealthy Texans, then and now, aren't averse to the large footprint.

  4. If the price is 1.2K, then I'm slapping down the $1200 and moving right in, because that place looks like it's worth $1.2M!
