What a difference a mailbox makes!

Our old mailbox was a constant source of irritation to me. It annoyed me to look at it, but it annoyed me even more to get mail out of it.

First of all, the style was too traditional. It was one of the many "upgrades" which had not even a nodding acquaintance with modern design that the previous owners made to our 1964 home.

More than appearance alone, it offended me because it was hung too high. I'm only 5'3", and getting mail out of it required me to stand on my tiptoes and contort my body to reach inside.

Here is the culprit that made my life miserable for a year. It was officially (and quite literally) kicked to the curb shortly after this photo was taken.

All it took was a few minutes with a level and a power drill to make my life manageable again. Now we have a new modern mailbox that opens with a key for easy access. Serenity has returned. Why do I procrastinate when such a simple solution is so readily available?

  1. Your new mail box is much nicer Dana.
    I didn't realise you were/are so teeny-tiny ;)

    1. Yep, Kylie...vertically challenged, for sure. I'm the woman in the grocery store pulling things off the top shelf with a long-handled spaghetti spoon.

  2. We are the same height... as the Great Scot describes it: "Hardly the height of nonsense!" I much prefer the new mailbox.
    Hope you are well. =)

  3. 5'3" here, too. I would also have been really annoyed about that mailbox. The new one looks very sleek!

    1. Really, tall people have no idea how annoying it can be, do they?

  4. We ended up getting the modbox you posted about a while ago. We got the orange one. Love it!

    1. Those are so cool, and I'm jealous! I really wanted one (orange as well), but our house was built in 1964, and there are so many holes in the mortar and in the brick itself from previous mailbox installations that we had to buy a big box to cover up as many holes as we could.

    2. We've had to make a lot of choices based on "how can we cover this up". Our house is a 1955 usonian style that we're trying to remodel in it's original style while trying to cover up some of the ugly that happened along the way. Strategic placement of everything from the doorbell to the paintings!

  5. Nice change, shorty! LOL
It looks great, Dana...and I'm so glad that you must no longer contort yourself to get the catalogs!

  6. I love the new mailbox! I to am vertically challenged. It's a little embarrassing when you have to climb the shelves in the grocery store to get that last box of something at the back of the top shelf.

    1. I've done the shelf climbing thing too. At some point, you just have to have that last box of something more than you need to hang on to your dignity. haha
