For those of you who are hearing this long, drawn-out story for the first time, we had modern slab doors built and installed early in July, and a week later we had a $100 quote from a painter/handyman who had just done quite a bit of work for us. I texted him the day before he was scheduled to do the job to ask if I needed to buy any supplies, and I received a curt "No" back. That's the last I heard from him. He never showed up and never responded to my subsequent texts trying to find out when, or if, he planned to paint our doors.
All the other painters I had contacted wanted $400-800 for the job, so this is how the doors have looked for almost six months...primed, ready, and waiting for us to paint them.
Finally, after seemingly endless procrastination, I am happy to report that I finished the job yesterday, and this is the front of our house now. In the spring, they will probably get a light sanding and one more coat, but, for now at least, they're done. (After a couple of days of drying time, we just might get some Christmas decorations hung outside. Thank goodness the decorating inside was finished days ago!)

The doors look beautiful Dana, and the trim is spot on! Perfect choice of color. I love those windows too. All of the interior doors in our house are still contractor white. I've been wanting to paint them for two years...talk about procrastinating! Maybe this will inspire me. Your house is in such a lovely setting.

I'm leaning that way, because our entry is a little blah, and that would definitely spice it up. We love the location of our home. It's on a half-acre lot that backs up to a heavily wooded hill, so we almost forget that we're not far from downtown. The neighborhood is so secluded that many people don't even know it exists.

Thanks, Pam! Those shutters have been a thorn in my side since we moved in. We have to stop procrastinating and get them down now that the doors are done. They're not as bad as the original doors...but almost. :)

ReplyDeletePatsy, those shutters will be gone before New Year's Day, I promise! :) I didn't notice them as much when the door was in limbo. Now they stick out like a sore thumb.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Ray. Every day I love the colors more. I think removing the shutters doing a little more to the flowerbed will allow us to cross the front of the house off our to-do list. We love our trees (all 21 of them), but a leaf cover for the pool is the next thing we're going to buy!
