Wonderful, wonderful Wormley

Making its way to the store yesterday was a sofa so beautiful I can hardly take my eyes off it. It's a Dunbar by Edward Wormley, and it's in excellent condition.

Wormley was such a master of understated elegance! Oh, be still, my heart...

  1. It looks lovely and very stylish. Though the mother of two boys thinks 'does it tip up at the end if someone sits on the arm?'

    I'll await your answer.

    1. haha I've had a couple of sofas with inset legs like that, and so far we've had no untoward tipping. However, both my guys are toddlers, so I can't guarantee it won't happen later. What I CAN guarantee...and I bet you can too...is that if there's a way to tip it, they'll figure it out. After all, they're boys...and that would be fun.

  2. LOL MMMC! Here's me drooling and making plans for this couch for my dream space and my illusions are shattered by 'the mother voice'!
Keep it a mystery Dana, no need to get the Grandsons to test out the tip theory! ;)

    1. That was spoken like a true mother, wasn't it? Just when we were about to was poetic about the sofa, the voice of reason shattered our illusion that it's perfect. Of course, she's right. We always have to think about ten calamities ahead of these kiddos! Otherwise they'd be in body casts till they leave home...LOL

  3. Such a beauty, this one. I absolutely love his work, and this one is stunning. Maybe someday I will have something so beautiful, when my toddlers are young adults and the can appreciate great art by not sitting on it :)

    1. I tell myself that it's survived looking this good through 60 years of toddlers, so surely a few more couldn't hurt it too much. :)

  5. Perfect low arms. I am admiring the green glassware in the back of the picture. What a lovely shop.

  6. I am 90% sure my Methodist church Livingroom set score is (to quote Sweet Charity) "A Copy, of a copy, of a copy of a"- Dunbar! It looks a lot like this, but the legs on mine are diffrent- and the seat cushion has a little piece infront of the Arm Stump. Either way with my fake or SIL's real one, I am just MAD about the row of buttons on the back! I love, like you said- the "Understated Elegance". Funny enough, mine is also light blue! It will look fab in our "coral" livingroom... if it ever gets built!

    1. Your coral living room is going to be heavenly, and I can just picture a light blue sofa similar to this sitting in it. Wow...what a stunner that will be!
