Spaces: Daughter's bedroom

We're still in the process of choosing and framing photos my daughter has taken on recent shoots, so the walls are bare, but I love this finished corner of the space. The Royal Haeger gourd vases by Larry Laslo and a vase she picked up on a trip to Costa Rica look great with her vintage Tony Paul-style wire lamp on a mid-century style dresser from West Elm. The rug, which Crate and Barrel interestingly describes as an "impressionistic oriental," is the Alvarez in Mineral. Sometimes a piece as practical as a well-made laundry hamper can round out a look. This one is the Sedona, also from Crate and Barrel, in Honey.

The art leaning unceremoniously in the corner is a favorite of mine. When my daughter was in her twenties and majoring in photography, one of her fellow students chose her as the subject of the series of multiple exposure pieces he exhibited for his BFA senior show. She loves the piece too, but she thinks it's a little weird to have a big picture of yourself on the wall, so it always goes in unobtrusive places.

In the store: Fantastic furniture and awesome accessories

My SIL won two great Haeger earth wrapped vases at an online auction and then found a very cool 26" metal sculpture on an out-of-town picking trip. The vases add a bright splash of color to any credenza or coffee table, and the metal sculpture will create a bit of drama in any room.

While on his picking trips, he made some fantastic furniture finds as well, including a teak desk with a top that slides from side to side to reveal hidden storage, a pair of Baumritter chairs, a dining set with six newly reupholstered chairs and a 9-drawer credenza.

The first of three Carter Brothers scoop chairs just got back from the upholsterer, and it's on the floor now too. An identical low-back one in avocado green and a high-back yellow one will be ready soon.

We also just put a really nice vintage bullet planter out. It's white with a gold pattern, and it's in super condition.

Ben Seibel and the Haeger "S Series"

In the world inhabited by serious collectors of china and other ceramics, an unsolved mystery frequently raises a debate. Did Ben Seibel design the "S Series" for Haeger or not?

We recently picked up this beautiful blue 16" Royal Haeger pitcher at auction which was attributed to Ben Seibel. As I always do, I began to research the piece.

I located a forum discussion about the same Royal Haeger flower pitcher in a shiny black glaze.

Some of the forum participants were convinced that this is a Seibel design, while others needed more proof. A couple thought the pitcher was reminiscent of Seibel's Forum International pitcher:

However, I think it is even more similar to the design of the pitcher in the Impromptu series that Seibel did for Iroquois.

For now, the jury is out until someone finds an old ad or some archived piece of Haeger history. What do you think?
