I thought it was cool enough that the vanity surface is glass tile, but that is just the beginning.
I didn't realize that you could pull the handle under the dresser top to reveal a drop-down upholstered stool!

And the door on the wardrobe side slides, rather than opens. When moved to the left, it covers the vanity and reveals a shelf, coat hooks and a rack that slides out.

How ingenious is that? More hanging space and a really cute vanity to boot!
Great find! I love suprises
ReplyDeleteThe surprise drop-down stool and tiled vanity surface are awesome.
ReplyDeleteyes, it's that kind of detail, ingenuity, and surprise that inspires us today to use our imaginations and make things not just good, but special!

ReplyDeletethis armoire is so dreamy!!!!!
ReplyDelete@J. Chris: It was all I could do to keep from squealing like a little girl when I discovered it. :)
ReplyDelete@I dream lo-tech: Aren't they a delight? This is another piece I wish I had room for...because I definitely need the hanging space.
ReplyDeleteAtomic Living Design: Everyone so far has used the word "surprise," and I imagine that's exactly how the original owner must have felt the first time she saw it.
ReplyDelete@Scarlett: I was thrilled to find your blog, and I'm so happy you stopped by for a visit here. Hope you'll be back often!
ReplyDelete@Sudha: I wonder how many beautiful women have sat on that stool and brushed their hair.
ReplyDeleteIs it a homemade piece of does it come baring a makers mark?!
ReplyDeleteAnything with a sliding door and we're sold!
ReplyDelete@Mick: I didn't look to see if it was marked, but it came from an auction of British-manufactured pieces from the 1950s and 1960s. I don't get the feel that it's G-Plan or Nathan, but there were so many companies in England producing Danish-style furniture back then, I couldn't begin to guess who made this piece. Maybe some of our readers from the UK will know.
ReplyDelete@chairsmith: Do you have any clue as to who might have manufactured this piece?
ReplyDeleteThat is genius! I love the functionality. Great piece.
ReplyDelete@SixBalloons: Not an inch of wasted space here!
ReplyDeletewow! that is super cool! My vanity chair is always in the way....ingenious!
ReplyDelete@CollectoratorToo: I think I'd smile every time I walked by this piece, just knowing that bench was hidden there.
ReplyDeleteLove!
ReplyDelete@Pippa: Me too! I think it's one of the sweetest little designs ever.
