Hop on the Gus Bus

When we started carrying Gus* Modern furniture back in March, I posted about some of my favorite pieces. Sales have really taken off, so today...after apologizing to Paul Simon for having a little fun with his lyrics...I thought I'd show you some of our best-selling seating, along with a few new pieces that I think will inspire others to come on board as Gus* fans.

While the line is certainly mid-century inspired, the company produces no knock-offs. Gus* furniture and accessories are perfectly at home with vintage pieces, but they maintain their own identity as good modern design. And did I mention that they're exceptionally well-made?

One of the hardest things to find is a good-looking glider rocker for a baby's room. I know, because I looked everywhere when Grandson #1 was on the way. We were so excited when we found that Gus* has just the thing for parents who don't want a traditional rocker sitting in the middle of their modern nursery.

In case you missed yesterday's post, I stepped out of blogger mode long enough to become a Gus* customer myself. I am the proud owner of a new Rochelle sofa, which you'll see soon when I post new photos of my redecorated living room.

  1. We haven't bought couches or upholstered chairs in a while (we're due soon). It's the one thing I won't buy vintage (Having cleaned out our own, I can't imagine what might have been in other couches and chairs)Love every one of these.

    1. We always have the vintage sofas and chairs we sell in our store reupholstered, unless we find them in restored condition. While our upholstery guy is at it, we have him check the springs and make any repairs necessary so they won't come loose later.

That said, I understand your concern about buying vintage sofas and chairs that haven't been restored. In addition to the cleanliness factor, you do have to worry about springs that have been sat on for 50+ years giving way as soon as you get them home. I bought my vintage sofa from another dealer (before we opened the store), and it has a bad spring. That's why I bought the new Gus.

  2. I've been a fan of the Jane Bi-sectional for a while now, but can't afford it just yet. I love that you can move the ottoman/cushion around so you can change the look of the couch just for the hell of it! LOVE and can't wait to finally purchase it! (I'm happy to hear that it's good quality, too. For that price, it better well be!)

    1. The Jane is one of Gus's best sellers, and I love it too. I also like the Spencer, because the ottoman section has a short back the height of the sofa arm, making it look really cool used alone.

  3. What great looking sofas!! I really like the Harbord style design. I cant wait to see pics of your new Sofa in your home. I love the one you chose with the Urban Tweed fabric. I have a thing for tweed fabric at the moment - on chairs or sofas with bright cushions.

    1. I love the arm on the Harbord! I went back and forth for ages trying to decide if I wanted the wood trim on the back of the Rochelle or the arms on the Harbord. It was a tough decision...and, to be honest, in the end, it was the upholstery choices that finally made me buy the Rochelle. I wanted something darker than the Harbord comes in.

    1. I'm 5'3", and the 23" depth is just fine for me. I can lean all the way back, and my feet touch the floor. If it were deeper than 23", I'd have problems though. I think people like the depth so it's comfortable when they lie down on the sofa.

  5. The Jane bi-sectional sofa is the exact sofa I've been looking for! Haven't been able to find the exact one and I've tried to explain the design to hubby but it wasn't computing. thanks Dana, for showing it to us. It's beautiful...unfortunately with a two year old, I think leather is the go for us unfortunately...

    1. My grandsons are 20 months and almost three, and that was one of the reasons I went with a dark fabric on my new Gus sofa. :) The Jane and the Spencer (my favorite of the sectionals) both come in Urban Tweed Ink, which is charcoal/black.
