Todd Merrill design

Todd Merrill, one of this country's foremost dealers in classic modern, mid-century and 1970s furniture, stays busy. He has been working on several design projects and has written a couple of books.

My favorite of his designs is a 9000 square foot home in Southampton, New York. The three-story home is built into a hillside and has ocean and bay views. Merrill gutted the house for renovation. He chose a gray-on-gray paint scheme and floors of matte washed gray reclaimed oak, gray French limestone and slate.

One of his books that you might want to put on your reading list is Modern Americana: Studio Furniture from High Craft to High Glam. In this book, he examines the work of Billy Haines, T. H.Robsjohn-GibbingsJames Mont, Sam Maloof, Paul Evans, Philip Lloyd Powell, George Nakashima, Paul Laszlo and many others.

  1. Nice looking furniture. I enjoy reading the history of it and the background of the designers. If it were not for your blog I would know nothing about all these nice things.

    1. I'm glad you find my blog informative. I try to keep a balance between sharing the history of the period and simply showing eye candy. I feel the same way about all the typewriter blogs, including yours. I learn something new every time I read them.
