I was fascinated by his question, and in searching for an answer, I found them with and without magazine racks, so apparently they were sold both ways.

Over the past few years, I've found that some people love Frankoma pottery, while others find it a little too traditional. Generally, though, no one can resist the charm of the stand. It's classic mid-century. Take a look at some other examples I ran across.
This one is called the Serva-Tray with magazine rack. It was the 1955 Ceramic Award Winner in the Hess Bros. National Contest for Versatility in Design and Use. Frankoma produced it from 1955 through 1964. I wouldn't mind having one of these by my favorite chair.

ReplyDeleteThey definitely bring back memories for some of us, don't they? Both my grandfathers had Frankoma smoking stands. Since Frankoma was made in Oklahoma, it was very common in Texas homes, so I grew up surrounded by it.

ReplyDeleteMy family mainly had the green pieces. It was only after we opened a booth at an antique mall that I started running into all these other fun colors. They really make the pieces look more modern, I think.

ReplyDeleteIs there any round about value? I have the green square design one only the ashtray is painted gloss black and the stand its on does nt have the magzine rack. I dont want to sell it, I would just like to know the value but I cannot seem to find a price for it anywhere. TIA
ReplyDeleteMy great uncle had one of these (no magazine rack, but in the green/tan color) sitting next to his recliner. I was at my 2nd cousin’s house, in her office and saw it. I said, “Is that Frankoma!” She said it was. I raved about it being so cool and that I remembered Uncle Jim having it She said my grandparents bought it for him. She said she has been waiting to give it to someone that would appreciate it. Guess who came home with a Frankhoma ashtray stand?
