I was kept busy for several days staging the main house for showing. I had to re-decorate around the front door that is orange on the inside. Quite a few of my stored pieces were put into service, as my daughter and SIL hadn't gotten around to changing out their previous blue, gray and red color scheme. They're a lot more relaxed about things like that than I am and were waiting for a rug they liked to go on sale. I may have mentioned that they tease me about being obsessive-compulsive when it comes to decorating, which may or may not be true, but with the house about to go on the market, they were more than willing to turn me loose inside their home.
Here are a couple of directions I'm going with ideas for a new bedroom. I love the colors in the first bedspread, but perhaps the pattern is a bit "little girlish" for a 66-year-old woman. I want the room to look modern but not boho/trendy, which will be on the way out soon enough, if it isn't already.
I also love the serene, more sophisticated look of the neutrals. And maybe serene is what a bedroom is supposed to be. My kitchen plans don't include a lot of bright color, so I wonder if that is heralding a toning down of my surroundings. I wonder, too, if I'd quickly get bored.
Be honest. Which do you like better?

Maybe some pops of color would keep me from tiring of the neutrals. But then am I right back to a colorful bedroom? More things to ponder at 2 a.m. Alas, it's sounding more and more like OCD.
A good OCD! I prefer the more neutral colors that way your objects will pop out.
ReplyDeleteI keep trying to tell my kids that it's a good OCD!
DeleteGreat! I too prefer the subdued colors with a color pop here and there.
ReplyDeleteTwo votes for the neutral. Let's see if anyone else offers an opinion.
DeleteSo you know the German songwriter "Udo Jürgens"? He wrote a song called " with 66 the life began", so you are not old. Maybe a young timer , so if you like it, go with the colorful scheme! I always love your modern nest and all the beautiful colors in there. Go for it. Hope you are feeling good and send you lots of Hughes... Yours, Ria
ReplyDeleteMaybe being surrounded by a lot of cheerfulness keeps us young. I admit that the neutrals are beautiful, but the color makes me smile more.
DeleteI really like the texture that you have in your neutral set, but overall I prefer the colorful. Maybe you can find a neutral/texture heavy bedding that would fit with the colorful board? It seems like there's plenty of neutral in your colorful board to keep the bedroom calming. And YES to the orange version of the chair! What is it?
ReplyDeleteThe chair you like is the GT Rocker by Gus*Modern. The color is Laurentian Citrine. The other chair is the Truss Chair, also by Gus*Modern, and you can get it in Citrine too.
DeleteI should have guessed! I love Citrine and I've been eyeing a couple of couches from Gus*Modern. I had been thinking grey, but maybe orange is the new black? Or something like that.
DeleteI have the Rochelle sofa by Gus in the brown and black Urban Tweed Gosford, and I love it. Orange has pretty much been my go-to accent color for almost a decade.
DeleteI prefer the neutrals, of course. But I can't see you (MIss Orange Front Door) w/o some serious color. I know you can combine both looks for a Dana style bedroom. :)
ReplyDeleteFifteen or twenty years ago, I was into very New Orleans-inspired "old world" decor and had a bedroom that was decorated all in cream and ivory and white. Of course, the walls were a very muted grayish-plum, so even then I couldn't pull off a totally neutral room. :)
DeleteThe neutral is just that... neutral... everyone has it. I like it, however the color and eclectic mix is what makes you who you are. I have a neutral-ish living room with pops of color but every where is full of color and mixes of styles! Do what makes you and your heart happy, if you love that bed spread buy it! Nobody is going to walk into your bedroom and say your too girlish! Make yourself smile everyday with the color, it's more original.
ReplyDeleteReflecting on how I've decorated over the years, I've realized that even when I was aiming for neutral, I always ended up with color, so I think you're right. The colorful room is more me. :)
