New house: Living room planning

Plans for the living room and dining room are coming along nicely. My daughter and SIL are ready to start ordering furniture, fixtures, rugs and accessories. Fun, fun!

Sputnik light from Lowes, West Elm dining table, vintage Cathrineholm bowl, Joybird dining chair,
vintage Laurel arc lamp by Harvey Guzzini, Ligne Roset coat rack, Joybird sectional sofa,
West Elm pillows, vintage Paul McCobb coffee tables, Crate and Barrel vase,
vintage Bitossi vase, Joybird chairs, West Elm rug, ponytail palm

The arc lamp is a keep-your-fingers-crossed piece. We sold one exactly like it at the store several years ago, and we're hoping to luck into another one at a good price. Till then, there will probably be a chrome one as a place-holder.

Here are the pillows that pulled the whole look together:

  1. Looking good - I like your (signature?) mixture of modern and MCM. Can't wait to see it in the actual space. Also, I was surprised to see that the sputnik was from Lowe's. It's a good reminder to keep my eyes open in every store, even if I don't think it carries my style.

    1. We really have become sold on mixing modern and vintage. It's so much more practical when you have young kids, and it's also so much more affordable. With the right modern pieces and some well-chosen MCM pieces, it's easy to create a look we love.

I have to admit that I was surprised to find such an affordable sputnik at Lowes. It's 35" in diameter, and it's only $198! It definitely pays to do Google searches, because I hadn't seen one in the store either.

  2. When my daughter said she wanted gold chairs with the dark blue sofa, I was a little skeptical, but then we found some great pillows at West Elm that pulled it all together. Now I love the look.

  3. It's going to look so amazing! I can't wait to see everything in situ. And you're so clever to be able to source everything. What a family of impeccable taste!

    1. Carmel, to be honest, sourcing is 9/10ths of the fun for me, and I enjoy it as much when I'm finding things for other people as when I'm finding it for myself. I love to find a great vintage piece at a bargain, and I also get a kick out of finding accessories. I have a bit of a pillow fetish. ;) Now that I'm retired, maybe I should consider a new career as a professional shopper.

    1. It's always amazed me how one small accessory can unite a whole room. I guess that's what makes decorating so much fun...finding that one thing.

  5. I'm so behind on your mood boards! I love the teal/blues with the ochre - so gorgeous! I hope you're able to find another lamp - it's a beauty and so unusual.

    1. When Jenn first told me her color choices, I couldn't immediately envision it, but after she chose her furniture, I was totally on board. It's all ordered, and I can't wait for it to come in.
