We are very happy in our new neighborhood. Developed in the 1960s, it's quiet, well kept, and conveniently located. Most importantly, though, we love that we're surrounded by scads of mid-century architecture we understand and appreciate.
I've been meaning for quite some time to drive around the area and take a few pictures to share with you, but the incessant rain we've been getting for the past month hasn't made for good photo shoots. Today the sun came out for a few minutes, so I decided to grab the opportunity while I could, since more rain is in the forecast.
Enjoy these homes! There are more to come.

Beautiful home...and I enjoyed a nice chat with the owner. |
|
Another lovely home, right up the hill from the first one |
|
Low-lying home...a little wet because of all the rain we've had lately |
|
This one is on our street...just a few doors down. |
Nice neighborhood. I wonder what these houses look like inside.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to guess, I'd say they're pretty fabulous. :)
DeleteDear Dana, you must be a lucky girl... That is a fantastic area you are living in now!
ReplyDeleteI would buy any of them if I could...
And I love your new foto, nice lipstick!
Wish you all the best, Ria
Greetings, Ria
Yes, we really do like the area. Thanks for the compliment too. So good to hear from you, Ria!
DeleteWhat a lovely neighbourhood! I keep intending to snap a photo of a MCM home in the area, which my grandfather built. Well, he built the original part of the structure at least. Perhaps the weather will cooperate soon.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a photo of the house your grandfather built.
DeleteLovely homes! Stay safe from the rains!
ReplyDeleteWe actually have bright sunshine today! I'd almost forgotten what it looks like.
DeleteVery beautiful. Peaceful looking area too. Stay dry.
ReplyDeleteOne of the first things we noticed when we moved was how quiet the neighborhood is. We had a lot more traffic through our last neighborhood.
DeleteThis must be what heaven is like.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of more traditional ranch homes in the neighborhood, but even most of those have some elements that make it clear they were built in the 1960s...floor-to-ceiling windows, rock trim, double doors with side lites, etc. There has been very little alteration of the original facades, which is pretty heavenly, when you think about it. We've been surprised to find out how many of the original residents still live here. The couple directly across the street from us and the couple next door have been here for 50 years.
DeleteWhat a great neighborhood. Those are some really awesomd homes. We just moved to Glen Oaks late last year and it is much the same. All custom built homes from the 50's. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteOur neighborhood was built in the early 60s. Cool to live in the real thing, huh?
DeleteWhat a great nieghborhood! I hope the owners appreciate it as much as you do. It's nice to see that the homes have their original charm. Now you just need to have the neighbors over for martinis and get to know each other.
ReplyDeleteI think the thing that I like most about this neighborhood is that everyone does seem to take a tremendous amount of pride in their beautiful old homes. I could probably count on one hand the homes/yards that aren't meticulously maintained.
