A couple of years ago, I posted about
Louis Kahn, focusing primarily on his large public buildings, such as medical facilities, university buildings, museums and the like. He is a particular favorite of mine since he designed one of the most beautiful buildings in my hometown of Fort Worth, Texas--the
Kimbell Art Museum, which I included in that post. Equally interesting, however, are the residences he designed. These beautiful homes demonstrate Kahn's versatility and extraordinary talent.

DeleteHave you seen Piano's addition to the Kimbell Art Museum? From the pictures he has respected Kahn's building.
ReplyDeleteI think the Piano Pavillion is a lovely addition to the campus, but I wish it had been built across the street, as originally planned instead of in the garden of the main building.
DeleteEarlier this year my wife and I visited the Kroiz Gallery/Louis Kahn Collection at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (http://www.facilities.upenn.edu/maps/locations/architectural-archives-kroiz-gallery). At that time the Gallery had an exhibit of Kahn's "local" residential architecture including interior views. This is a small gallery that also serves as the architectural archives for the university, and is a worthwhile stop if you're in Philadelphia.
