Yesterday the plumbing was finished, my hot water heater was installed, and my back yard...which for weeks had been full of trenches and exposed plumbing lines...has all been filled in and looks like a yard again instead of a war zone.
Flooring will be started today, the walk-in shower will be built and glass will be installed Thursday, cabinets will be delivered Friday, the exterior will be painted Saturday, and cabinet installation will begin Monday.
But the most important thing...the thing I am most excited about...is that the room divider I designed came to life yesterday, and it's just the way I envisioned it. Here's a sneak peek at it, before caulking and painting. The next time you see it, all kinds of lovely vintage pieces will be displayed there.

Love it Dana. Room divider, vintage display space, perfection.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be so much fun to find just the right pieces for this space.
Deleteoh wow, that looks great. Nice design. think of all the display pieces you can fit in there!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will go through many incarnations before I find just the right combination. What a great excuse to buy vintage items! :)
DeleteStop it! Call the Cool Police!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely wasn't cool when I first saw it. I was squealing like a little girl. :)
DeleteSqueak for the sneak! Very exciting :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the squeak! :)
DeleteInstantly transported to the houses from when I was a kid and people had awesome room dividers that were works of art - so cool.
ReplyDeleteYou're right...Most houses back then did have cool, artsy room dividers. I wonder why people got away from that.
DeleteMy dad, who was an engineer but liked the conceptual part of his job and not the actual construction of things, was a talented woodworker. He just didn't enjoy doing it. However, when I was a kid, my mom talked him into making the most amazing, gigantic room divider/bookshelf to separate our dining area from our living room. There was even a cool cubby for the console TV...a forerunner of today's entertainment center. The thing was probably 8 feet long and 5 feet deep, with deep shelves on both sides. I loved that thing!
It looks amazing, Dana, I'm so happy for you! I'm looking forward to see it filled with your beautiful pieces:-)
ReplyDeleteI have the plumber here now as I write. The kitchen was done late last evening and turned out just as I hoped for. Handmade with a gorgeous surface! We still have some finishing to do, but I'm looking forward to showing you real soon! There might be a little sneak preview before I get my stuff in and it comes to life...
Oh, I can't wait to see your wonderful kitchen. It sounds as if it was built to perfection. I know you'll have it filled with beautiful things and ready to photograph soon. I'm so excited for you!
DeleteWell look at you miss designer!!! This is so beautiful, Dana. You must just be giddy beyond belief. I'd be jumping up and down!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, it really is wonderful and as far as room dividers go...this one is top-notch, mid-century, custom-made GORGEOUS.
To also read that the yard is back to normal and the hot water heater installed... HIP HIP HORRAY! So much progress. This calls for a margarita as you sit back in a chair and stare at your amazing wall. :-) So exciting!!
I was squealing and clapping my hands and making the carpenters laugh yesterday when I watched them put it into place. I'm sure they thought it was a little silly that a 64 year old woman was that elated about a simple room divider, but at the same time, I think it made them happy that I appreciated what they had built for me...especially since they'd had only my crude, not-to-scale drawing to go by.
DeleteYay! Good to hear things are happening fast.
ReplyDeleteThat divider turned out nicely. With all the vintage pieces in place, I can imagine how awesome it'll be.
I'm so excited that we're really on the downhill stretch now. Things really do seem to be moving quickly, and I'll be in before I know it.
DeleteBeautiful Dana! Things are really moving along quickly. A Few more weeks before you're in? I can't wait to see the beauties you display on your divider wall. I'll bet you've been arranging them in your head for months. Am I right?
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that I'll be in by the end of next week. I'll be without countertops for a few days, but that won't be a big inconvenience.
DeleteI've definitely been arranging them in my head for the past few days. I only ran across a picture of an inspiring vertical divider about a week ago on Pinterest, and I sat down and sketched a horizontal version right away. Once I talked to my contractor about it, I immediately started buying new pieces on eBay. :)
Love that room divider! Can't wait to see the final reveal!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping the final reveal will be sometime around mid-March. I've never spent my first night in any new home over the past 40+ years without first hanging pictures on the wall and putting pillows on the sofa, and I'm sure I'll do the same this time. There may be boxes hidden in the closet, but it will look like I've lived there for a year. :)
Deletelove the divider!!! great idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat did we do before Pinterest? I got the idea there!
DeleteLove it! It is perfect! Cannot wait to see everything all painted a decorated!
ReplyDeleteSoon! Very, very soon now. You'll have to come see it when it's done. :)
DeleteOmg I love it! I cannot wait to see it filled with all your treasures. =D
ReplyDeleteIt's given me a whole new reason to buy treasures! :)
DeleteThat looks awesome! Great design Dana! I can't wait to see it all filled with treasures! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm ordering new ones as fast as I can! :)
DeleteCan't wait to see this completed, Dana.
ReplyDeleteYour guys are moving!
You jump and clap all you want. ;)
I never thought I'd be so excited about moving into something so tiny...but the prospect of having something so cute and so easy to keep clean is really thrilling!
DeleteOh baby! That is so nice. I can't even imagine the fun of filling those shelves, and then refilling and rearranging and refilling. It is really cool and just the perfect touch for a collector of all things glass, pottery and beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm thinking the same thing. Buying and rearranging just might become a full-time job. :)
