Yesterday my daughter and SIL attended an auction. Previewing started early, so they left home around 5 a.m. in time to check things out before the bidding started at 10 a.m. The auction promised to be a long one, as the catalog showed over 700 lots.
When they got there, they were told that the auction would last till at least 8:30 p.m., with no loading of any purchases till all the bidding ended, so they settled in for the duration. At 6:30 p.m., I heard from them. They had bid on all the lots they wanted and were headed out for dinner, in the hopes that they could load up and head home as soon as they got back to the auction house.
I had a couple of specific pieces of furniture I wanted them to try to get for me, but they were bid up pretty quickly. My daughter was hoping to bring home some art that was estimated to sell for $300-500, but it went for closer to $1500, so she came home empty handed too.
My SIL won several lots for the store, and I'll be showing them to you in the next few days. Till then, here are some of the pieces taken home by lucky winners...maybe us, maybe not.

ReplyDeleteI loved both those too, but the cow hide stools were bid up online higher than I wanted to spend before the auction even started.
DeleteSo many lovely and sculptural pieces! I have lots of fond memories of rugs like these, they were in the hallways of almost every home over here when I was a child, and have become very popular again. Of course, my grandparents' generation made them themselves, from worn out clothing and whatever materials they could get hold of. I love those traditional crafts made with love!
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother and her friends hooked rugs too, but as I remember, they were more loosely woven and rarely striped. Like the ones you remember, they were made of discarded clothing and scraps left from making dresses.

DeleteI love it all. I'm mourning the loss of my falcon chair. A large guest sat in it and the leg snapped. Thanks for the eye candy. I needed that. If you ever see rosewood falcon chair legs, let me know. Can't wait to see what SIL scored.

DeleteGeeeeeez... this is some seriously good loot! That desk is incredible. Love the "floating" drawers! The console table appeals to me too and is actually something I could really use and have space for. Looking forward to seeing your wins.
ReplyDeleteMy SIL focused mainly on case goods this trip. He got some very nice pieces that I'll be showing soon. He loved the desk too, and I was actually considering bidding on the console table for myself.
