Aluminum chess set by Austin Cox

In 1962, Alcoa gave away modernist aluminum chess sets to their most valued customers. Austin Cox designed the set, which features a felt board, 32 pieces displayed in a 31 inch walnut case with a blue plexiglass cover that slides out. The pieces were cut from aluminium bar...the white appearing in a natural aluminium finish, with the black differentiated by black anodized sides with regular aluminium faces. Each pawn measures 3 3/4 inches tall. The kings and queens measure approximately 5 inches. The board measures 13 3/4 inches square. All pieces are stamped "1962 Austin Enterprises" on their undersides.
