Quartertwenty

While doing a quick Etsy look-see, I happened upon a craftsman whose work I love. Matthew Bietz does business as Quartertwenty and makes some of the most striking furniture and accessories I've seen in a while. Mixing steel and wood, his designs are as practical as they are beautiful.

I am particularly enthralled by the 10 x 42 Bench, as you will see from the multiple photos below. I find the repurposed live edge plank and the polished edge on the pitted, black H-beam absolutely stunning. I also love the Stirrup shelf brackets and may have to get a set for myself.

If you want to know more about Quartertwenty, a visit to the website offers more information.

Oh..and I almost forgot. Matt makes skateboards too. He even offers you a drink and a place to ride if you stop by his Portland, Oregon, shop. Who could ask for more?

Mid Century Wood Shop

If you're looking for cool, mid-century inspired outdoor furnishings, then look no more. Etsy seller Paul from Nevada City, California, has created some for his store Mid CenturyWood Shop that are guaranteed to fill the bill.

He builds what he calls "atomic age cultural artifacts" out of a number of woods, including reclaimed old growth redwood and reclaimed cedar, saying that he likes "repurposing old timber in a modern way." He takes his inspiration from 20th century furniture and architecture and creates something for everybody...from a plain $25 succulent planter to a $1675 Eames style Adirondack chair. (He also makes beautiful, unadorned redwood and cedar planter boxes for indoors or outside and is happy to take custom orders.)

Big E, little e

I've been in a buying frenzy now that my move-in date is imminent, shopping like crazy on eBay and dropping a few pennies on Etsy too. I'm starting to wind down, but I still have a few bids out. This is the fun part! Here are a few new things that will be making their way to the new modernist nest.

Vintage Danish candleholders
Don't let the nice picture fool you.
They arrived loose in a shoe box,
without a speck of packing material...not even a little paper towel.
Luckily, they survived, but no thanks to the seller.

Vintage handwoven wool wall hanging

Vintage carved bird

And a vintage folk art painted bird

And an Oiva Toikka Willow Grouse like the one we sold in the store months ago,

Signed de Simone bottle
When I looked back at a post I did on  Giovanni de Simone
several months ago,I realized that I had included a photo
of the very same bottle as an example of his work.

Royal Haeger vases by Larry Laslo

And, yes, I'm so obsessive that I even have to have a spoon rest for my stove that I think is exactly right. Sad, I know...

Christmas wish list: Etsy

Last week I featured Christmas hints from eBay aimed directly at those near and dear to me who are willing to dig deeply into their savings accounts or IRAs, cash in some insurance policies and/or take out loans to be sure I have a very merry Christmas. :)

This week, I'm adding some Etsy finds...just in case they considered my last list too short.

Et tu, Etsy?

Yep, even Etsy!

We're happy to announce the opening of our Etsy shop for all our friends who live too far away to visit us in the store.

It has been in the "talking stage" for  a while, but we have received so many requests from around the country that we decided it was time to make it a reality. I have a lot of work ahead of me, because I need to take tons of photos of all the items from different angles and add more details to the descriptions. I only have the simplest of listings posted, and they will be expanded as I have time. You might know I'd start to work on the Etsy store right at the beginning of school when I have so many other projects going...but I seem to work best under pressure! :)

So far, we've only listed smalls, but furniture may be coming soon, once we get comfortable with the Etsy process. We've been very pleased with the traffic and the response we've received in the first 36 hours.

Here are a few of the items we've listed, many of which are already on favorite lists:

Hanging ashtray
Black desk lamp
Large art glass bowl
Blendo drink set
Georges Briard ice bucket
Handmade cedar bowl
Large art glass bowl
Rimini Blu candleholders
Vintage coffee/tea set
Gooseneck lamp with fiberglass shade
Chartreuse pitcher
Teak tray and coasters
