Grandson #1 will be six years old in October, and Grandson #2 will be five in December. They had outgrown an IKEA table and chair set they'd had since toddlerhood, so it was time for some changes. Luckily the table legs were adjustable, but not so the chairs. Time for a DIY project and a new seating solution!
I chose classic white S-chairs, originally designed by Verner Panton in 1967, in a kid-sized knockoff version. Although I had always considered the original adult-size chairs very pleasing to the eye, I didn't expect them to be comfortable until I sat in one. Once I was sold on the comfort factor, they seemed perfect for the boys' art room. (In case you're wondering, the space was supposed to be a sunroom for adults, but the kiddos confiscated it.)

The table had red and blue plastic caps on the legs, and it was cute enough with the original chairs, but it was time for something a little jazzier, a little more grown up...and a lot more suited to existing decor.

So out came my magical white, black, turquoise and orange duct tape and and a roll of patterned washi tape (Japanese-style masking tape, in case you are among the uninitiated), and after about an hour of cutting and wrapping, the old table was transformed.
