The current owners wanted to stay true to the style of the 50-year-old house without resorting to mid-century clichés, so they chose contemporary furnishings inspired by period pieces. They replaced Tiffany blue and bright yellow paint with a far more subdued palette of browns and greens, using colors of the mid-century outdoor light fixture as interior accent colors.
The four bedroom, four bath, U-shaped house surrounds a pool and towering palm trees and has a lava rock
exterior, as well as a lava rock fireplace, lava rock bar and beautiful slatted room divider.

ReplyDeleteBe sure to come to our new store in Deep Ellum! We should be all moved in by next week. We'll be at 2928 Main, between Monica's and the All Good Cafe...and we're going to have even better things than ever!
DeleteBeautiful place...when can I move in! Would love to see more pics!
ReplyDeleteThe downside of posting about all these beautiful homes is that it makes mine look dowdy!
Deleteloved the extensive use of lava rock..gives the house a very organic and classy feel...(sigh)..u post these homes and i dream of living in each one of them :)
ReplyDeleteYes, isn't all that lava rock gorgeous? The extensive use of rock is one of the things I love most about many mid-century homes. I'm particularly a big fan of stacked stone.
DeleteActually I was ready to be shocked about the rocks, but looks better than I thought. The exterior precast concrete grille is just like the one on my high school built in the 60's.
ReplyDeleteI really love screen block walls and would love to have one in my back yard.
DeleteSo cool, thanks Dana. Do you go to Modernism Week? That is definitely on our agenda. We are currently delving into Sarasota Modern.
ReplyDeleteSo far, we've only made it to the Denver Modernism show, and that was before grandson #2 was born. A 1-year-old, a 2-year-old and my daughter's full-time job as webmaster for a large school district makes it hard for us to get to many shows, but my SIL and I are still trying to figure out how to pull it off.
