Cool little Kevi

The Kevi chair celebrated its 50th birthday in 2008, at which time 2.5 million of them had been sold.

It was designed in 1958 by Danish twin brothers and architects Ib and Jørgen Rasmussen. In the chair's lifetime, it has received several design awards, including one for the Kevi wheel, which Jørgen Rasmussen designed in 1965. The Kevi chair finally gave the world the ideal solution for sitting comfortably while at the same time being able to move the chair easily in all directions.

The furniture manufacturer Engelbrechts celebrated the anniversary by launching an anniversary line called the 2050. Only 250 copies of that line were produced. The anniversary edition came with a certificate and was personally signed on the bottom by Jørgen Rasmussen.
My SIL recentely found this much older version, which will soon be available in the store. It's such a cool minimalist little chair, and I especially love the oval casters. They look like little shoes. (Remember the Johnny Depp lunch counter "bread dance" in Benny & Joon?) And the little white dots on the rosewood backrest are such a cool touch.  Although the upholstered seat is in good condition, I think there are some serious plans to make it ultra-fabulous.

Oh, by the way...Rebecca at Mid-Century Modern Remodel is having a drawing for a beautiful turquoise vase, and she wants your input on a new masthead for her blog. Drop by and spread the bloglove.

    1. Not many people can design office chairs that look good, but the Rasmussen brothers certainly did!

  6. Beautiful little gem. And Dana, thanks so much for the support. My graphic design friend is just delighted. She asked me to provide her some feedback and direction. Hahaha. I surprised her. She had no idea.

    1. Most office chairs are so clunky and awkward-looking. This would be a great look for a home office that wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb in the room.
