Casa Gomis, a beautiful modernist house in northeastern Spain, was designed by architect Antonio Bonet Castellana. Bonet was commissioned by Ricardo Gomis Serda
ñons and In
és Bertrand Mata in 1949 and completed the final design in 1953. Construction began in 1957, and the Gomis family moved into the house in 1962.
The home is still owned by the Gomis Bertrand family, but it is threatened on two fronts. First, it sits between the Barcelona airport and the Mediterranean Sea. In the 1950s, the airport was very small, but today it has expanded until it is now only slightly more than 400 yards from the home. Also, the house was built by artisans, and today there are very few craftsmen who have the skills to make necessary repairs. The family needs support in communicating with the airport authorities, as well as the municipality.
If you are interested in exploring what can be done to save Casa Gomis, you can email
Marita Gomis Bertrand, whose parents were the original owners of the home.
