Famous houses in film

If you love mid-century homes and are a film buff as well, you're going to love this video entitled Mid-Century Modern Houses by James Munn on Vimeo. It takes you through an amazing collection of clips of well-known films that were shot on location in equally well-known homes designed by famous architects. Some you may have recognized when you watched the film the first time. Others may surprise you.

For example, did you know that Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House has been used in many films, including the 1933 movie Female, Vincent Price's 1959 House on Haunted Hill, the 1975 film Day of the Locust, and Blade Runner in 1982, as well as Grand Canyon and The Rocketeer, both made in 1991? Other houses that have been used as locations for films are The Chemosphere, the Schaffer Residence and the Sheets-Goldstein Residence, all by John Lautner, Richard Neutra's Schaarman Residence, Le Corbusier's Casa Curutchet and Villa Savoye, and Pierre Koenig's Stahl House.

Just a few of the films that have been shot at famous houses are The Fast and the Furious (2001), The Big Lebowski (1998), Mission Impossible II (2000), Iron Man (2008), Body Double (1984), The Aviator (2004), Contempt (1963), Nurse Betty (2000), L.A. Confidential (1997), Diamonds Are Forever (1971), North by Northwest (1959), Sleeper (1973), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), and A Star is Born (1954).
