Fredrik A. Kayser

Fredrik A. Kayser (1924-1968) was one of Norway's best known furniture designers. He was born in Bergen and graduated from the National College of Art and Design.

He then became an apprentice with the Nordic design firm Rastad and Relling from 1952 until 1956. After leaving them, he opened his own design firm and worked for some of Norway's top furniture manufacturers.

He was inspired by contemporary Danish furniture, but there is an element of classic style in his work as well, which is know for its beauty and practicality. He is particularly known for his work with lamination.

His 711 range received wide acclaim, and over the span of his career, he won many design awards.

I was not familiar with Kayser's work till a photo on the Plastolux blog piqued my curiosity. If  you're not one of Tyler's regular readers already, I highly recommend that you give him a read. You can also see some of his fantastic furniture designs...the Goodro credenza and the Plastolux Cube side table on the store website.
