Garage-full-o'-German

You just never know what you're going to find on Craigslist.

I was in a fat lava mood, so I checked eBay and Etsy, but I didn't find anything priced so low I couldn't resist. On a whim, I looked on Craigslist, hoping to find an odd piece or two but not really expecting to find anything...and you won't believe what popped up.

Granted, the seller lives quite a distance away, but that's a small price to pay for this bonanza. The ad said that everything from mini vases to floor vases to pendant lamps are available...and nothing is priced over $40. Here are some pictures from the listing.

  1. Oh, the lengths we go to for great pottery:-) That's indeed a bonanza! I'm guessing you got a lot, but not THE lot. Maybe the neutral, caramel- colored ones?Must have been great fun!!

    1. You're right that there were several pieces that didn't appeal to me, but the minute I saw the ad, I knew there were still so many I wanted that it was worth the long drive. You score a point for guessing that I got one (or more) in the neutral caramel range. :)

  2. If I was with you, I would have suggested the green with leaf pattern, the big red, the red pendant, the small blue ones and that tall yellow and brown one as well! Was there a sing song during the road trip? x

    2. Yes, there actually was a sing-along, and when we took the bumpy back roads coming home, we pretended we were on a jungle adventure.

You, too, score points for guessing green, red, orange/black...but no blue.

I might as well tell you the bad news today. My daughter was making the trip for two specific pieces, one of which was the tall yellow and brown one. When we got there, she discovered that it had two long, visible cracks on opposite sides of the vase that ran from the top lip completely down to where the yellow starts. She was so disappointed!

    1. You'll be sad to read what I told Pippa then. My daughter had her heart set on that piece! But you get a point for guessing that we liked it too! :)

    1. A point for you too, because something mustard did come home with us, along quite a few with others.

  5. Super jealous of this one. Like so much of the good stuff, it's almost impossible to find up here. That trove would definitely be worth along drive.

    1. I seldom see even the smallest pieces on Etsy or eBay for less than $25-30, and very often they're coming from Europe and shipping is sky high. We paid from $8-10 for most of these pieces. The seller gave me one large piece for $30 and the other for $20 because she felt bad that we had to drive so far. It was well worth the trip!

  6. Please suprise me... I´m with the green ones, but only because we don´t have any orange thing in our house. Don´t ask me why, because I like orange. As a child I always said: "RORANGE ist meine Lieblingsfarbe!" I had wonderful overknees in orange..., just a 70ies child...
So, I will see your choice tomorrow!

  8. I'm not into pottery but this is a wow find. So the big question, which ones go to the store, which ones to your nest? ( :

    1. When I told my SIL about this, he was preoccupied with moving into the new store and trying to stage a penthouse in collaboration with an art gallery for a grand opening party, so he said he'd pass. When he saw all the great pieces I brought back for myself, I think he was sorry he hadn't sent money. He's already started hitting me up to borrow some for the penthouse. :)

  9. Oooh the pendant lamp! I've been looking for something like that for a while. If you do go back, I'd happily reimburse you for the cost and shipping! :)

  10. Usually I stay right on top of comments, but I completely missed this one till today when I was looking back to see when I bought all this pottery. Unfortunately, we never went back. There were a few more pieces I would have bought, and I would have been happy to pick up the pendant light for you. I'll look back through my old email and see if I can find contact information for you. I'm sure she would be happy to ship to you if she still has it.
