Construction saga: Pinterest inspiration

I can't believe it took me so long to get into Pinterest. I've been pinning actively for a year, and now I can't live without it.

It's been one of the most valuable tools I've had while working on my current construction project. Why would anyone want to bookmark an item these days when pinning is so much easier, so much more effective and so much more visual? I've kept my "To Buy" lists for the project on Pinterest, marking each item "Bought" as I ordered it. So efficient!

I've also used Pinterest for design inspiration, and here's one.

I'm having a partial wall built between my living room and bedroom, so I asked my contractor to build a two-tier room divider similar to this one above. The wall itself will be 5 1/2" high, and the divider will be about 8 feet long and 2 1/2 feet high and will give me a space to display small glass, ceramic and wood pieces.

    1. I'm still in the drawing and re-drawing stage. I can't decide if I want order or asymmetry. :)

  2. I love your inspiration and I'm sure I'll love the real thing too.

We have these silly wooden beams we're stuck with in one of our living areas (unless we spend heaps of money!) I have a very similar idea for filling the gaps between the beams. I think it will look awesome. Space to display special pieces, but still light and airy, and a way of disguising the beams at the same time. I think Anth is building it when he gets home...gotta keep him busy, right?!)
Can't wait to see your house Dana!

    1. We definitely wouldn't want Anth to slack off...haha I think you'd love it if he built you a place to display more things. That just gives you a good excuse to BUY more things. Right?

    1. I will warn you that Pinterest is addictive...but it gives you access to more ideas than you can imagine. I especially like how I can create a board for each room and see everything at one glance (and easily remove things when I change my mind...for the millionth time).

    1. We've had several nice room dividers in the store, and we're about to pick up another huge CADO wall unit tomorrow. That's what I'd love to own, but I don't have the space or the money!

    1. I think that may be where I start displaying Oiva Toikka birds as I collect them, along with a few vases and bowls.

  6. I love the partial wall idea - and the pPnterest inspiration one is great. I remember my gran having partial walls/shelves from the loungeroom into the kitchen dining area in her home. The shelves were full of treasures that I probably paid no attention to at all back then, but would give my eye teeth for now! All the best for the rest of the construction and design process. Really looking forward to seeing the end result.

    1. I feel the same way about my grandmother's treasures. If I could only get my hands on half her things right now, I'd be knee deep in mid-century heaven! So glad to have you back!!!

  7. Careful! SIL, Daughter and Grandbabies might want to move in, if you make it that cool! :)

  8. That partition wall of yours will be great- as will the rest of that gem of a house, can't wait! I'd go for asymmetrical (the wall, that is!), it's so laid back and cool:-)

    1. You're right about the asymmetrical wall. I think it would be so much cooler (although, to let you in on one of my dirty little secrets, my natural leaning is toward symmetry, and I have to work really hard to get a casual, un-arranged look).

    2. I used to be symmetrical, now I'm all asymmetrical:-)

  9. Love partial walls! Yes!! I avoid Pinterest like the plague (I'm one who can buzz through hours before I know it on something like that) but I DO peek from time to time.

    1. I can waste days on Pinterest if I let myself. Like you, I have to be really careful not to fall into that trap. I've kinda set a rule for myself that I will only look briefly at the pins of people who repin me, since I know we have similar taste. It's rare that I just let myself wander aimlessly around the site.

  10. Oh I love the divider! If the second room in our new addition wasnt going to be the bothroom I would have put i one of these! Or one of the deviders with a giant planter in the bottom to fill full of gravel and fake plants. It sounds like you are nearing my favorite part of construction the "decorating" phase!

  12. Missed this post. Catching up as we wind down the week. I like that partial wall a lot. Really pleasing the way it is laid out. Pinterest is a great idea for scrap booking design ideas. I have been using it to catalog blog pictures and totally forgot I need to figure out a kitchen. DUH. And I have seen so many good ones lately. I am starting a kitchen board right now!
