Tomorrow I'll share a few close-ups before I wrap up my construction saga. They will include the room divider, which has already changed since the photo was taken (thanks to a mix-up by the postal service), as well as the beautiful macrame hanger sent to me by the fantastic Pippa of ouch flower, which I've been waiting to show you in its place of honor.
If you see anything that makes you curious, just ask. I'll be sure to give you a closer look and whatever information you want...or you can check out my Pinterest boards entitled Materials.

Dana!!!! Yay you!!!! i have lots to say but I want to stare and stare and come back later when I have more time. I have been clicking in randomly all morning. First off, the room divider looks great and I like the little view out your master a lot. What a great and cozy hide-away. The bathroom is pretty awesome! Wow, this was worth the wait!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I still have some work to do in the back that will make the view even nicer, but everything else is pretty much finished. It really has turned into a cozy spot, and I love it.
DeleteOkay some more compliments for you. I was sipping my coffee and gazing at your new home at work (haha) and our admin walked in. She is a 25-year-old hipster. She was in love with your new place. We looked at all the details together and how it is small, but well appointed, how the room divider connects the two main spaces, the kitchen with its cool work-space/eating-space. She said, "if you ever see anything like this to rent, let me know." I told her that IMHO, it is one of a kind. The room divider at the top of the wall was inspired because it allows you to display more treasures (obviously), it provides more natural light to both rooms, and it is such a sculptural interest. It is inspired. Finally, I went and checked out your Pinterest boards. Well done! I know you were using Pinterest to keep track of things you like for your remodel, but they are so well organized (well, duh, it is Dana), and useful. I am going to use the same concept while planning our kitchen remodel. I have been doing rather scattered internet browsing and have not kept track of where I have been. This will help me get started. Congrats again. Home run. For sure.
DeleteThanks to you and to your hipster admin! I had planned to have a partial wall between the bedroom and living room to create a more spacious look, as well as allow more natural light into both rooms, but originally it was going to have a bookcase on the living room side. That was bothering me, because the place is so small that I was having to be very selective about what furniture I could use, and the bookcase was going to take up space I really wanted for other things. When the construction was almost complete, I just happened across a picture of a room divider on Pinterest and knew I had to have one. After many discarded sketches, I finally came up with a configuration that felt right to me and had my contractor put the carpenters to work on it. I'm SO glad I did.
DeleteI found Pinterest boards really helpful in keeping myself organized. When I saw things I liked, I'd pin them, because I'm notorious for forgetting where I saw something. I might have a dozen faucets on the board, but when I made my final decision, I'd delete the others and then mark it BOUGHT when I ordered it. I found it helpful when I had to make returns too, because packages were coming in so fast that it would have been impossible to remember where I got everything.
Oh, congratulations, Dana- it's SO beautiful, I'm speechless! All those amazing pieces... What a clever feature the room divider is, you can enjoy you yummy pottery from both sides:-)
ReplyDeleteGrammo's Little House, what a cute name for it! I bet they love visiting:-)
Gorgeous, Dana!!
Thanks! The room divider was an afterthought. I happened to see one like it on Pinterest, and I'm so glad I included it. The boys do love coming here. They come hang out with Grammo several times a day. :)
DeleteWhat a beatiful, beautiful home! Well worth waiting for =) Its perfect!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm so happy to be getting all this positive feedback.
DeleteOh my gosh it is absolutely gorgeous. (ALL OF IT)
ReplyDeleteI especially love the bathroom. That mirror is amazing and the shower is totally cool!
Thanks! The bathroom is my favorite room too. The mirror was a last minute thing because of some changes in the construction of the room and placement of a vent. I'm so glad it worked out the way it did, because I love the mirror too.
DeleteMazel Tov! How gorgeous, down to the littlest detail. I love the patio off of your bedroom, and the bathroom is stunning. I hope you enjoy every minute living here!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I do like having some green space outside the bedroom. I'm really happy living here.
DeleteDana this was so worth the wait and aggravation! I mean the construction, not the pictures. Well done with great taste and style!
ReplyDeleteThanks! You're right that all the aggravation will be forgotten soon, and enjoying my new place will make it all worthwhile.
DeleteOh my! It's spectacular! I love it. It looks cosy from outside and positively huge on the inside. Everything is sooo divinely arranged. You are THE most stylish grandma I know. Just gorgeous. The colour choices ... I'm completely agog.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I was afraid it was going to feel small, but it's perfectly comfortable and spacious. I'm really happy with the way it turned out.
DeleteThis doesn't look like a grandma's house to me, Dana! You are a stylin' hipster!
ReplyDeleteWow! It is fantastic. You must be thrilled. Definitely worth the hard work and waiting, I'd say. Love all the details- I have flipped back and forth to take it all in.
Enjoy your new space!
Thanks! I really am thrilled with it, and I think I'll enjoy it for a long time to come.
DeleteYou did a great job, Dana! Your new nest looks nicely coherent and I already see how you'll enjoy tweaking this and that the longer you live in it. The divider turned out very well and I have to agree that you built yourself a show-stopper of a bathroom. I see that you've replaced your traditional desk with a secretary desk. Is that new or vintage?
ReplyDeleteCheers from the Netherlands!
Thanks so much! I'm happy with the new nest, but of course I'll tweak it. Not tweaking means not buying new things, and we can't have that!!! :) I had the dropfront desk in the main house, and there wasn't room for the big desk here. It is vintage...a Remploy from England.
DeleteHave fun in the Netherlands.
OH. MY. GAWD!!!!! Dana... this is so amazing! The space is so perfect for one person and the layout takes advantage of every inch in the best way. Every piece so special and perfectly placed... I've had to look at it several times to see everything. Love the bar area in the kitchen with your daughters modern patents (I forgot what she calls them) on the wall. Also love that you can walk outside your bedroom. And the room divider is so marvelous - I have no more words. (and I'm never at a loss)
ReplyDeleteSimple, modern, cool, and a place I know you'll be so happy in. Congrats, Dana. Worth all the headaches and waiting. :-)
Thanks! It really has turned out to be the perfect size for me, and the layout works well. I'll give you a few closer views of things tomorrow. It was definitely worth the headaches!
DeleteDana, I just looooooovvvveeee it! Every detail is fantastic! I especially love the room divider at the top of the wall. Well worth the wait, I'd say!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm really happy with the way the room divider turned out. I think it defines the whole space.
Deleteoh my word!!. your new little abode is fantastic!. you have created the perfect little cacoon, full of amazing treasures. gawd I love the light fixtures you picked and the bathroom mirror is killer!. its all fab Dana...well done you! and it all seemed to come together so smoothly (well from this end anyway?). oh you have a pippa treasure, cant wait to see it in its new home. I love the hanging baskets outside too, it has all been finished perfectly. great outdoor space.....well you know I just love it all. (the orange door!!...yay). I look forward to seeing more unfold, for you to wear it in, make your mark (you know bum prints on seats and all that). Now all you have to do is enjoy!!.. Al xx
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm sure that after the dust settles, I'll realize that it really did come together quickly and smoothly. Pictures in the future will definitely look more lived-in. Just today I got greasy little boy fingerprints on one of my pillows. The new is already wearing off. :)
DeleteCongratulations Dana! The day has arrived. I had to make a coffee when I saw the post in my feed, so that I could settle in and take my time adoring your lovely pics. You have an amazing home. I agree with MMMC - it looks HUGE on the inside. I love the breakfast bar in the kitchen and the orange scattered throughout the house. I just love it. Looking forward to seeing more. : )
ReplyDeleteThanks! You know I was gonna have to have orange throughout the house! I have to admit that I'm a little surprised that it looks as roomy as it does. I think I'll be really comfortable here.
DeleteReally, really beautiful Dana! Congratulations! Love everything from the orange door to all the beautiful pieces you choose for your home. Spotted that macrame hanging and knew it had to come from Pippa!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love Pippa's contribution to my home. It's really beautiful, and I'll give you a closer view tomorrow.
DeleteI personally think your place needs a write up in Atomic ranch magazine and I plan on supplicating on your behalf if you don't mind. This turned out mind blowingly great and that is a serious understatemnt! So happy you finally get to enjoy the fruits of all the time and trouble!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I'm pleased that it's all done now, and I'm ready to sit back and enjoy it.
DeleteAbsolutely spot on Dana, what a luxurious looking pad. Beautiful attention to detail - I love the way you have used black in various ways - it really brings things to life and frames things so well. Also If I ever more again Im having a room divider like that! ...and a cow rug...an orange door, and wooden floors...and...and....:) Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! At first I wondered if I were making the right choice going with so much black, but I really like the way it came together.
DeleteWhat a lovely little crib you have! Very tastefully decorated, I'm certain that I would clutter up such a space is very short order.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The good thing about this place is that it's so small I can get it cleaned from top to bottom in less than 30 minutes! :)
DeleteI popped by this morning and my comment didn't save but I'm here now and no less impressed and pleased for you! You have a warm and amazing home, you rocked the colour scheme and finishes perfectly! I look forward to seeing more! Now put feet up and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLove xx
Thanks! I knew that all the black and white I've used could come across as pretty stark, but I hope I've used enough wood and color to warm it up. I'm definitely going to put my feet up and relax now that it's done!
DeleteWow, how wonderful to be at this stage where you can take beautiful photos. And lucky you gets to live in it without a bunch of other (dear) family members to bugger it all up every day. You might like my recent post, Mrs Orange lover...
ReplyDeleteI just popped over to your blog to see your orange, and it's all fabulous! As for family members...the grandsons make an appearance several times a day, and though they're generally good about picking up after themselves, I occasionally have a stray toy or two lying around. :)
DeleteAbsolutely beautiful! It makes me want to move right in! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I've been in it for two months now, and I'm really enjoying it.
DeleteWelcome to your new home Dana, it's lovely, just as I new it would be.
ReplyDeleteI think your exterior colour choices and the slatted timber eaves(?) are inspired.
Happy days!
Thanks! Like the room divider, the slatted overhang was an afterthought. I'm so glad I had both of them built. I think they actually give both the exterior and the interior their personality.
DeleteOMG! Have just re-read my comment. I hope you know that I know how to spell knew?!
ReplyDeleteha! I never even noticed. I threw out my red pens 11 years ago when I retired from teaching.
DeleteDear Dana,
ReplyDeletecongratulation to your wonderful home. Everything looks so inviting to me. I liked already the corner of your home but now, if I see the rest of your house, I adore what I see. The colour sheme with orange, grey and your wooden console (is it wenge or teak?), so lovely. You did a great job and I just will switch over to pinterest, to see more.
Greetings, Ria
Thanks so much! The credenza is a Jens Risom piece in walnut that I picked up several years ago for a song. I'm so glad you stopped by to see my new home.
DeleteWhoa. I haven't been on in a few days and missed the big reveal. Looks great, Dana!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The way I've had to drag this reveal out, it's amazing anyone still cares. :) Whew...I'm really glad this project is over!
DeleteOh Dana, it is simply stunning!! I love the light fixtures, the dreamy kitchen, the spa-like bathroom, the mid-century furnishings mixed with just the right amount of modern. It looks so spacious and so comfortable. It's so "you" and that is the highest compliment. And the orange front door is perfection. I don't want to dither on, because I want to scroll back up and ogle to photos some more. I'm so happy this beautiful space is yours!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I'm already so happy in it. It's extremely open and airy and easy to keep clean, and there's more than enough room for me. Also, it's so much fun having the kids nearby. It's turned out better than I hoped!
DeleteWhoa, catching up on my reading and so glad I didn't miss this! Your home is amazing, and you have fabulous taste! I don't know what I like more, the kitchen with the counter is great, and I think I could live in your bathroom! Great décor in every room. Just got a new leather sofa the same color as your chair! Need to go back and look again to take it all in.
ReplyDeleteI do have one question, I didn't see a dresser/chest in your bedroom. Are you hiding a huge closet somewhere?
Congrats......just perfection!
As a matter of fact, there's one room I didn't photograph, because it still needs some shelves built. It's a combination laundry room/walk-in closet roughly the size of my kitchen, and I have a chest of drawers in there. At first, it was going to be a utilitarian space without much effort spent on decor. There's a partitioned area for dirty clothes that I originally thought I could use an existing rolling cart in, but I've decided that shelves will be better. Once I have them built, I can move some things around, and the space will be prettier. Then I'll decorate and take pictures.
DeleteThanks Dana! I just showed my husband, and he's in love with your home too! Lots of oohing and aahing going on over here! :) Pam
ReplyDeleteI'm getting pretty giddy with all these wonderful compliments! Tell your husband I'm glad he enjoyed seeing my new place. :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful place you have built for yourself! I love it! the orange door? Love. The cowhide? Love. The room divider with great collections? Love. All the green and ORANGE accents throughout? Love. The breakfast nook? Love... and I could go on and on and on. Wonderful house. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Your tiny homes inspired me to build a full-size one. :)
DeleteYAYYYY! DANA!!! This look so incredible!!! You must be so thrilled to be in this cozy home!!! im so thrilled for you! All my best to you, Love!!! xoxoxooxoxoxooxoxoox
