Over the next four decades, they opened a lighting factory and took over several lighting companies, expanding and working with a number of designers. In 1957 the company hired Jo Hammerborg as head designer. Hammerborg had studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and had worked for Georg Jensen for eight years before accepting the position.
Under the design leadership of Hammerborg, Fog & Mørup enjoyed their greatest success, becoming one of the world's leading lighting companies during the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to his own designs,
Hammerborg was able to recruit designers such as Sophus Frandsen, Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup, Jørgen Bo, Erik Balslev, Karen and Ebbe Clemmensen, Sidse Werner, Hans Due and Peter Avondoglio.
The iconic Semi by Bonderup and Thorup is probably the best-known of the company's designs, along with Hammerborg's Saturn, Tunica, Classic and Diskos, Frandsen's Fibonacci, Werner's Formland, Balslev's Radius and Due's Optima.
In the mid-1970s, the company merged with the lighting firm Lyfa. Although the companies shared a factory, the two brands remained separate.

These are beautiful! I'm looking at the hideous fixtures that came with my apartment and wondering how they came to pass the "good design" test? One of these would look so much better.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many products out there that should never have made it off the drawing board! I look at things all the time and wonder what the designer was thinking.
DeleteI need a new lamp for the dining room, I will add the Semi to my thrifting list!
ReplyDeleteI think the Semi has such a wonderfully sleek look. I'd love to have one too. I also wouldn't mind having three of the Orients grouped over my dining table.
DeleteWow!Saturn, Orient, Kastor, Nova and Radius...any one, any one at all!
ReplyDeleteI agree. There's not a one of them I'd pass up at an estate sale!
DeleteGorgeous. I also loved the pics from Mother's Day but didn't get to tell you so until now!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I loved the photos of your mom too. She was quite a babe! :)
DeleteI've always liked lighting and it's one thing I always look for when out. These are some awesome designs.
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to find a bargain on lighting, because generally it goes for a lot of money, even at estate sales, I've noticed.
