Moving-in day

No, we haven't found a new house. The moving-in around here is of the plant variety, since we finally had our first sub-freezing night earlier this week.

Now my little modernist nest looks more like a little modernist jungle, with plants everywhere. Some have permanent spots, while others have taken up temporary residence till I can figure out where to put them.

Even at 28 degrees (-2 C), the asparagus fern outside pulled through just fine. It's a good thing, because with bougainvillea taking up a good-sized portion of the walk-in shower, I didn't have a spot for a half dozen large hanging baskets full of fern and fallen pecan tree leaves.

One cactus planter finds a suitable home...

...while its prickly brother is right beside my computer.

For now, the bougainvillea is taking a shower whenever I do.

Baskets of asparagus fern are still looking for a warm place to live for the winter
...perhaps lined up on the shower's divider wall?

    1. It has grown so tall since I first moved into my little house. I bet it's literally put on 12". I can't believe how healthy it is.

    1. I've got to go out and buy plastic saucers for all the planters. These things are getting thirsty! :)

  4. Very beautiful plants. I never saw a cactus like that one. I used to have moving in day or days when I lived in VA. I had more plants and a nicer place to put them than here in FL. In VA I usually brought the plants in when the first cold and frost was predicted. In FL plants can be left out 90% of the year. A bit farther South and all year.

    1. In my part of North Central Texas, we have to do and in-and-out routine with plants. It's back up to 85 degrees today and isn't predicted to get below freezing anytime this coming week, so I'll move the cactus back out and let them drink in a little sunshine for a few days. We don't ordinarily have many below-freezing days till February. Probably 70-80% of the time, they could be left outside, but I've let bad weather sneak up on me and wipe out everything. That's always a shame!

  5. So strange to have to bring plants in. Living in the sub-tropics mean the potted plants can stay out all year. And I love how you're showering with your plants!!! xx

    1. Yes, that's Texas in the fall and winter...28 degrees (-2 C) one day and literally 85 (29 C) the next. I'd almost rather live in a part of the world where you bring them in and they stay till spring, with none of this shuttling back and forth. But they do so much better outdoors that it's a shame to waste those warm days.
