Come fly away

When my SIL pulled the Electrohome Circa 75 out of the back of his trailer in front of our house so I could take a look, I was instantly in love with this stereo. When I posted about it the other day, I didn't have any good shots of the dials, which look like something out of a cockpit to me. Several readers had expressed an interest in seeing more photos of this piece, so here it is, in all its space age glory.

  1. Love at first sight, I want one! love the circular dials and buttons and the overall look. I've noticed good vintage sets like this bringing high prices now. Great find Dana.

    1. We've sold nearly a dozen vintage stereos over the years. People love them.

  4. Exquisite! I adore the chrome legs. I would design a house around that gorgeous piece.

    1. It would definitely be the center of attention in any room, wouldn't it?

    1. Sometimes I look at pieces like this and think about how most of us get our music today and kinda wish we hadn't made so many advances in electronics. I miss having a big, beautiful piece of furniture in the room where I play the radio...or albums...or tapes...or CDs, even.

    1. The only downside I've found to moving into my little grandmother's apartment is having enough room to justify buying new furniture. If I buy anything, I have to be willing to let go of something else. Boo!!!

  7. Wow! You need to find a larger place soon. Bet the volume goes to eleven, way beyond the typical number ten.

    1. I was shocked at the volume and clarity the first time my SIL turned it on.

  8. Pure coolness! It looks like it had stepped out of Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange." Where was it made? Does it work?

    1. It was made in the 1960s, and it works as well as it did when it was brand new. Someone took very good care of it.

  9. So high end. I think this was a very nice stereo in a very nice home. I have a pedestal in our living room that hides a few hundred or so CDs. I keep meaning to sell them all. But can't quite bring myself to do it, in spite of the fact I am a Spotify fan. And I remember glibly selling a few hundred records for $10 in a garage sale 20 years back or so.

    1. Yes, they were very high end. They weren't made for very long because of that.

When I moved out to my smaller space, I sold several hundred CDs at Half-Price Books and made a nice little chunk of change, but I'm a little sorry that I got rid of them. I gave all my albums to my daughter years ago, and she still has them.

  10. Now there's a reason to go back to vinyl. Good looking furniture that makes a noise!

    1. All my vinyl from the 60s and 70s is intact. I should take some of it to the store.

  11. Love love love. I've had a few vintage record players, but New York apartments are just too small for these beasts. Nothing can replace the look or the feel or that crackling sound!

    1. This one is very heavy, and it definitely dominates a room!
