I've had several people say they'd love to have house plants, but they just can't seem to get the watering right, so I thought I'd share a photo of an automatic waterer I found online recently that I think might be a solution to that common problem.
If you read this blog with any regularity, you know that I've had an obsession with vintage bird decor for quite some time and have used the theme extensively in my new apartment. You can imagine how delighted I was when I ran across an automatic waterer that looks as if it were inspired by Oiva Toikka's glass birds. (For more about Oiva Toikka, check out this wonderful interview.)

These are available online from Solutions and come two-to-a-package for $19.95. I'm a little confused about the size of the birds, because one description on the site says the birds are about 7" from tip of beak to tip of tail, but another description lists the dimensions as 12 1/2" L x 5"W x 2 1/2"D. No matter the size, I think they'll be beautiful nestled under the leaves of a dracaena or a rubber plant and plan to order some for myself.
Thank you so much Dana, for bringing this to my attention, it's beautiful!! What an amazing combination of beauty and function! I hope they ship to my corner of the world:-) Otherwise my husband is in the US almost every week, do you know if they have shops?
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, they're only online, but surely if you contacted their customer service department, something could be worked out.
DeleteThat's lovely. If you do get some, please show us what they look like in situ ... and if they work. I'd be keen to see. Indoor plants are just so fab. I'd love more. Right now mine are outside soaking up some rain.
ReplyDeleteI really couldn't do without my indoor plants. They add so much to a room, and they're healthy for you too!
DeleteThat's a sweet birdy and he'd earn his keep too! x
ReplyDeleteYes, I love something pretty that's practical too.
DeleteHow very neat! Practical and stylish too!
ReplyDeleteYou know me and my bird fetish! :)
DeleteGood idea. And it keeps your theme (obsession) going consistently. I am anti indoor plant for reasons that are true defects in me, not the plants. Maybe this would solve my problems(s). Or at least one of them.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, now you have me curious about your defects. :)
DeleteThese look great - I too would love to hear a follow up to see how they go.
ReplyDeleteI am notorious for killing indoor plants, even succulents. These little watering birds may be the ticket!
I'll let you know how they work after I've had them a while.
