In the store: Chairs, chairs and more chairs

It seems there's no end to the great sets of dining chairs that are coming our way lately. Out of the blue, someone contacted my SIL with these chairs. A controversy exists about design credit for the chairs, with some claiming that Niels O. Møller designed them, while others say it was Arne Hovmand-Olsen. As I understand the situation, the J. L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, at different times, gave credit to both men. Be that as it may, who could pass up this many Møller chairs at one time, no matter who designed them?

And just when we thought we couldn't possibly be lucky enough to have another set of great chairs in the store, along come six more designed by Peter Hvidt and Orla Molgaard-Nielsen. These beautiful rope and teak chairs are in excellent original condition. Such fine seating!

  1. I assume you've seen the catalogue pics with design credit going to Olsen? If not... here's some fun pictures. http://www.designaddict.com/design_addict/forums/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread_show_one/thread_id/17992/

    1. Yes, I had seen that thread on Design Addict, but if some legal action, as one reader suggested, caused them to have to give him credit in that brochure, apparently it's been resolved, since the company is giving Moller credit for both designs on their website now. Confusing...I'd love to know all the details.

  2. I have a weakness for chairs, those are gorgeous! Just love the lines, especially on the Moller. Divine!

    1. I love chairs too. The only thing I really hated to give up when I moved into my little house was my dining set.

  3. You know, I think I saw a couple of those Hivdt chairs in the storage room of my office building. They were in a sorry state so I decided to ignore them.

Off topic: I really liked your Lucy vs. Audrey analogy, it clarified things for me. And then I thought, in terms of typewriter choice, I am Hepburn and you are Ball! ( :

    1. You're right about our typewriters. My little turquoise number is definitely a Lucy choice, but I'd like to grow up to be a Hermes owner, which is definitely more of an Audrey choice, I think. :)

  4. We have people all the time in our store that have either a chair or lamp fetish! These are really great and I'm pretty sure someone won't let them hang around long!

    1. Joe really loves the Hvidt set. He usually doesn't voice a preference, but something about these really grabbed him.
