Mystery no more

It's been a little over a year since I started trying to identify an upholstered chair in my living room. I had just about given up on ever finding out who manufactured it, but I'm pretty sure I found the answer.

My SIL sent me a link to a site that has tons of old furniture ads, and there it was in a 1963 Kroehler ad. My chair.

It looks as if the chair in the ad had floral upholstery, but it was alike in every other detail.

Everything looks right...the angle of the legs, the slope of the arms, the curve of the back, the height of the back cushion. It even looks as if the other pieces in the group have three rows of buttons, like my chair has. I think we can safely close the case on my mystery chair.

My Kroehler chair.

  2. @Sudha: Doesn't it always happen that you find something when you're not even looking?

  3. @Rachael: I love the lines of this chair, and it just happened to be in a color I could use. The upholstery is pristine and appears to be original. That furniture could be treated with such care for so many years amazes me.

  4. And Mr. Modtomic just found a Kroehler oval coffee table!

  5. @John Bachman: Yes, but thank goodness my chair hadn't been abused and then kicked to the curb in the rain like his table was.

  7. @chairsmith: Thanks! I really love the little chair, and it's nice to have the mystery solved. I knew I'd run across a picture of it when I least expected to.

  8. Dana, that is a darling chair. I purchased one on a similar scale from Craigslist a few months ago that had been reupholstered in an orange nubby fabric and it's a keeper. I have a chair fetish...I have had many chairs over the past few years.

  9. I remember neighbors having a chair like that. So cool.

  10. @LeAnn: You had me at orange. I'm slightly obsessed with that color. But my SIL and I love chairs too. It seems we buy more chairs for the store than anything else.

  12. Yay! So neat you finally found your chair's origins. I love when things accidentally happen like that.

  13. @Tanya: I've learned it's useless to get impatient when you're trying to identify a piece. You always run across it sooner or later.

  14. @Vintage Hunter: Thanks! I loved it just as much when it was a no-name, but I'm happy to have finally identified it.

  15. Fabulous chair and oh heavens the color! We acquired a Kroehler sofa and chair a year or so ago and it took some digging to figure out that it was in fact Kroehler. It's pink but the upholstery is pretty roughed up and I'd love to redo it in a mustard color, and it the same type of upholstery in your pic above. Love it!!!

  16. @Rina: I have a few pieces of furniture that need recovering too. I really lucked out when I found this chair in just the right color.

I'd love to see pictures of your sofa and chair.
